All the fish in Joe Pool. Whites, Largemouth, Crappie, Catfish, Drum, carp, buffs, gar...

Never seen anything of any size come out of there, yet.

Keep in mind that the water under there is technically mountain creek, which has a consumption advisory in place.

It is a bit of a walk to the fishable area. I was there one time just checking things out. One of the trucks in the lot had been broken into. You have to leave your vehicle in a lot a good distance from where you can fish. Maybe be a little bit risky.

I am not sure, but I think the consumption advisory has been lifted from Mountain Creek. Parks and Wildlife website may have more info.

Yep , your kinda right it wasn't the jet alone but fuel spills from the military base.

From wikipedia :

Quote:
There is currently a ban on eating any fish out of this lake due to high contamination levels of PCB's. This is due to the use of airplane fuels and other toxic chemicals throughout the history of Hensley Field.

Dpn't overlook all the fertilizer runoff into the lake, it is as much a culprit as the Naval Base that used to sit on the north end of the lake.

Yes, a plane did crash into it a long time ago, it is still there, as I have caught crappie from around it when I was younger.

I don't know how far upstream the advisory extends.

Used to ? Where you been ?

Just today while I was out there I saw them conducting test flights with some double rotor helicopters.

They don't have to stay over their base.

I thought that base was closed. Oh well.

Wikipedia tells us:
-------------------------
The installation was closed in 1998 as part of the 1993 Base Realignment and Closure conducted by the Department of Defense, but partially reopened in the early 21st-century to accommodate military training requirements.
------------------------

I've been on the lake a few times in kayaks, in the past couple years, but not like I used to be.

I grew up fishing that lake, and at one time knew it very well. There is still some good fishing to have out there.
