So I was putting the weights in a brand new Tru Life swimbait when an unfortunate accident happened. In the process of dropping the lure and trying to get my hands out of the way, I put a treble hook through my finger. (Pics posted when I figure out how to from the office.)
I tried all the old and new ways of getting the hook out without any luck, and ended up in the emergency room.
Fortunately, this time, I was at home when this happened. What do you guys do when this happens on the water? When you are by yourself?
Before someone says it, I tried to back it out and tried the line tug trick. Even at the hospital with a completely numbed finger, it still took 15 minutes to get it out.

I think I would do the line trick,I have done it on my fishing partners and had it done on me but I haven't done it on myself, but I think I could

In 2008, I was in emergency room also. Caught a 4lb largemouth on top water, he kept jumping in my hand as the treble hook went deeper and deeper. My buddy wanted to try the mono-get-the-hook-out trick on me, but the hook was right at the bone. Nice $250 adventure.

Just recently had it happen to me...first time in years and years of fishing. I've removed the hooks from others but never had to do it to myself....and it is different on yourself.
I was into stripers on top water action and one angry, mean striper drove the treble hook into one finger to the bone. I had a choice...pull it out and fish or leave and go to the emergency room.
So, took small pliars, grabbed the hook in the bend and yanked hard. The hook popped right out and was able to go back to fishing. The wound was sore the next day, but healed quickly. I think the key is to yank it very hard..and maybe have some feeding fish nearby to give you incentive.

. Now right there...that's where ya messed up! You can't try the "old and new ways" on YOURSELF!
Ya gotta have an innocent bystander do the pulling, jerking, shoving through or whatever! A neighbor, the postman, UPS driver, the wino in the alley...they all are more capable of doing the deed than your own self!
I mean, let's face it....the innocent bystander is MUCH more apt to JERK that sucker clean outta there than the principal involved! Ya see, it ain't hurtin' him one bit!
Think about it!
****Sun sinking low....lines baited.....gentle south breeze blowing...you realize.........I AM! .

I had a buddy with me that had never done the mono trick, so I told him to google it and watch it on youtube. He wasn't real comfortable with trying it, so I did it on myself. When I heard the tearing of tissue in my finger, I decided the hospital was the best bet.
Even though, it still took the doctor a while to get it out. I am not sure the mono trick would have worked even with an experienced person.
Strangely enough, it never really hurt except for when the x-ray tech was flopping it all over the table trying to get a good angle. Other than that, I have noticed my typing is horrible today.

Like meadowlark said, when by yourself get your needlenose pliers, get ahold of the hook shank push in and down then yank hard. You might want to sit down on in the cockpit in case you pass out that way you wont fall in the lake. Worked for me.

Did some one call the WAAAAA-BULANCE??
I have gotten stuck so many time it aint funny. Many of them cause of my dumb arse buddies hitting me with lures!!
I have taken hooks out my ear, my foot, my thumb, my shoulder 3 times, forearm, even my calf...
the best way to take it out is just grit the teeth take it like a REAL man and pull it out fast. Yeah it hurts but its better than a big bill at the ER! I got tetnis shots like every year when I was young. My parents hated me!
The worst one was the ear. It went all the way through the tough part of the ear. I was alone and I could not see the hook to cut it off clean. Have you ever tried to see your ear without a mirror? I think I am still cross eyed from staring to the right for like 15 minutes trying to find the hook and cut it so I can just pull it out. Nothing is ever EASY!!
I have a stitches kit in my boats med-kit and I have used it and bought new ones many times. Once fishing alone at my camp on Toledo back in High School I took a filet knife in the wrist! Freaked me out a bit when I knocked the knife off the table as I was reaching down for my tackle box. It was a perfect slow-motion shot right under my watch and stuck right through my wrist under my watch. Keep those things in a sheeth! I just drank a bottle of my dads Jack and a few Alieve pills and stitched it up myself. It was just a bit hard tying the knots alone one handed while a bit loaded from the Jack though. Lesson learned-dont drink that much Jack and try stitching yourself up! I got to say I can barely see the scar now though!! mmmmm I should have been a doctor!
I have used super glue on so many cuts it aint funny.
Maybe all this crazy stuff is why I have this nervous tick now?? mmmmm lol
Heck PM me and I will help you out for a ton less than the ER...
Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit!! It is when pirates count their booty that they become mere thieves. ARRRRRR....

I had one like that with a treble hook. Spot went crazy on PK. I took the needle nose and turned it and ran it back out my finger, then had my partner clip the barb. I thought he was going to pass out. Just getting the weight of the hook off helped the pain.

Y'all are freaking nuts!! I have never had a hook deep enough that it needed tools to get out. So I don't know, but I can't imagine my first thoughts being "get the pliers"

I had the hook so deep in my finger, that when it pressed the nerve and bone, my left foot would dance.
