went in the bass hunter yesterday and could not get hit, the water was smooth and the fishfinder said it was 20 feet deep and the fish were around 15 or so. what is wrong with the fish? there were so many balls of shad all over and they wouldnt even look at my fly. I dont even know what they were. if it helps any they were not all the same size

Well, that ought to weight it down. But in the future it might be wise to invest in a sink line or a lead core shooting head. The depths involved in getting down to deep fish on Texoma can be quite a bit more than one usually encounters.
I have some LC-13 tied to some backing that gets down with a mighty kachunk! it ain't pretty casting (see articles online about casting shooting heads) but it will get a fly waay deep relatively quickly.

My experience is to feed them a fly that is bigger, brighter, colorful, with a crippled action to attract the predator fish surrounded by bait. I don't tie clone flies for this obvious reason.
Agreed - get your fly down to the fish. I prefer an unweighted fly on a sinker fly line than an overweighted fly.

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I agree with what George said, offer them something better than what they are already eating.

Welcome to fishing for schooling fish... they're a ton of fun to fish for... when they're eating!!! The rest of the time, well, if you like looking at your graph, you can usually find some not eating!
