I have caught lots of different freshwater and saltwater fish. I have yet to catch a carp. Any information on bait, water type, gear, technique would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Seedtick is in SW Nacogdoches County. Very rural. There is a large creek that runs out of Lake Nacogdoches on my place. It is dry except for the deep holes. Would that be a good place to start? I know the creek has bass, perch, and bowfin.

If your creek's holes have fish in them, I'd say there are likely a fish carp in there as well. Give it a shot!

Generally, one single hook per line (no trebles).
The reason is that if you have two hooks on the line and your main line breaks when you are fighting a fish, the second hook could get snagged, causing the fish to be tethered in place and die a long, slow death of starvation.
Trebles can pin a carp's mouth shut, so we don't use them, either.

Can you give me an example of how big a #6 hook is? I am a bass fisherman and the smallest hooks i have are 1/0 owners.

A #6 hook would probably fit on a dime.

My gosh that is small. Is it a very thin wire hook also? How do you keep it from straighting out? Have you ever used a circle hook?

My gosh that is small. Is it a very thin wire hook also? How do you keep it from straighting out? Have you ever used a circle hook? I use #6 circle hooks all the time. There are some very sturdy ones available at Cabela's (made by Gamakatsu, I think) that I have used to catch several fish over 20 pounds. Avoid the thin Aberdeen, or crappie, hooks. You'll need to look specifically for sturdy, well made #6 hooks. If you can't find that size, #4 or #2 can be used (heck, some paylake carp fishing used 1/0 hooks as a matter of course, so use whatever you have).

Like my orignal post said, i have never caught carp, thanks for the information..One last thing. Do you suggest a spinning or a bait casting rig. I have both but I want the best fight and challange as possible.

a spinning or a bait casting rig. Use whichever you want. The cool thing about carp fishing is that, though you can spend lots of money on nifty, carp-specific tackle and gear, all you really need is a rod and reel like you'd use for bass. The carp gear can help you cast further and catch a few more fish at any distance from shore, but it's not required to have a great time catching carp. If you have a 6'6" or 7' bass rod with 8- to 20-pound test line (or higher, if it's braid), you have all the tackle you need. Make a C-rig (or slip-sinker rig), tie on a size-6 (or -8, -4, -2, 1/0, whatever) hook (or circle hook), use sweet corn for bait and chum, cast out your rod and put it in a holder, and you're set.
