I don't recall reading much positive about the Hummingbird units. Any particular reason why? Some of the newer models look pretty nice.

In my opinion you have read everything positive about them. I've had several, sold them all at garbage (I mean garage) sales.

I'll tell you one thing...that new unit they have out with the 3D technology is INCREDIBLE. They had a demo of it at the Crappie USA Classic this past September. You can see a half dollar coin on the bottom of the lake...and the face on it too.

I just installed a Matrix 37 with Quad beam and side view. Haven't even got it wet yet. The price was right(free, Birthday) I just had to by the GPS reciever. From reading the manual it seems to be a very nice unit. Will try it out on Friday.

IBFishing, post a review of it once you test it if you don't mind. Thanks and later.

Speaking of fish finders nuts It shows fish lots of times and I can't even get a bite. Or is that the way it goes? Lots of fish but no bites? I like the detail on it and the temp. It just seems I am doing alot of fishing but not bring home enough fish.

Oltom, Who (if anyone) endorses Hummingbird? I'm not trying to be a smartalec, I just don't remember.
I like the Eagle 320. I know it's not the newest technology, but I can read it, translate it and above all...afford it.
IBFishing,
Cliff, you gotta be one lucky doggie there. Nice new boat, new electronics...come to think of it, perhaps I should come and give your rig the old once over. Let's slime that bad boy!! smile

Jon.G2, I just replaced my X-85 with the new Eagle Fish Elite 642C. The X-85 was great, never had a problem and it's an excellent locator. Gave mine to my father-in-law. So far, I really like the new Eagle. It has better resolution than comparable Lowrance and is $50 cheaper. Has the GPS built-in ant and I got the Navionics Premium chip which seems real good on Cedar Creek, maybe not on other lakes.
Did find one problem, GPS shows a large hump just out from the CCL Spillway. It does NOT exist. I went back and forth many times looking for it and the depth never varied more than a foot where it showed several contours merging to form a hump. Don't like that at all, doesn't lead to trusting it.
