I mean, i'll go catch them for bait or put a worm on a hook for my little girl but to actually be JUST a bluegill fisherman is a little weird to me.

One of the wonderful things about life is the incredible variety available.

I doubt that most of the fisherman frequenting this thread only fish for bluegill all of the time, but bluegill are a legitimate sport fish and are worthy of being targeted.

I have gone fishing specifically for bluegill and other sunfish, but not too often. Usually I'm after bigger game, but I do still enjoy ultralight angling for the buggers!

I've been fortunate to catch just about every kind of fish that swims in fresh and salt water in many countries...including the grand slam, over a hundred Tarpon, Permit on the fly, etc.,etc. I love to fish for big BG as much as any of them.

If that is weird, then count me among the weird cause I'd just as soon go after a big BG on a fly rod as anything...far better than most other freshwater fish.

If you are a troll, please don't waste our time...if you really believe BG fishing is weird, then spend your time elsewhere and miss out on some of the finest fishing available anywhere.

I, too, have fished for nearly everything that swims in salt and fresh water but to go to a good lake that has BIG bream in it and catch a batch is one of my greatest pleasures in life.

Not to mention what a fine meal those BIG fillets make!

I target blue gill and what ever else wants to hit my fly because catching anything on a fly rod is pure fun. The blue gills and red breasts (one of the most colorful fish I have ever seen) are the most dominant and plentiful fish on the water that I fish and I target them. At the same time I put out a few jugs and hope for some catfish as well.

The great things about Bluegill/sunfish is that they are available in abundance, for their size they put up a heck of a fight, and don't take too much coaxing to get to strike!
I'd rather catch something then go skunked, and most times when you catch one there are more where he came from so it can turn a decent day on the water into a great day with lots of action.

Definately a fun species to catch!

My guess is this guy has never caught any trully BIG bluegills, and definately hasn't eaten any. Otherwise he would realize how rediculous this post is.

My guess is your a dbag. I have caught 1000s of bluegills, I just don't see why you would target them specifically as a grown man when you can catch a whole mess of big catfish. I posted so someone could make me understand.

It's funny you call him the dbag when you come in here and basically say bluegills are for kids and there bigger fish to be caught.

Its funny that you have an 8 page thread in the catfish section asking some of the dumbest arse questions I have ever seen. Have some common freaking sense. PLEASE!

BTW, I never thought about catching them on a fly rod which would be kind of fun. Still not as fun as catching a 50 pound catfish though!

I wanted to see why people would target bluegills and actually got a few good answers such as, fun to catch on a fly rod, good to eat, etc, so I'd say no it wasn't dumb. It was enlightening.

And just so you know I have 8 page thread asking question about a fish I've never fished for nor knew anything so I'm sure to an experienced angler of the fish it might seem dumb. And you should try searching google for bank fishing flatheads tips there's is next to nothing that is useful.
