Ok, I already have my mind made up, but I have a buddy who thinks a Pfluegger reel is as good as a Penn. I say no way! Penn is by far better. What's your thoughts?

Kind of hard to compare 'em since there's not much overlap in the niche of the reels they make.

No fish is too good for the grease.

Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn Penn

All of the Penn Reels used to be made in America, but now only
the Offshore "Gold Colored" International Series are made here. I use the Spin SS Series, but these are also now being made in China.
I think this all started when K2 bought Penn.

If you check ebay you can find the America made Penn reels new
in the box usually cheaper than the China made one.

PS. I abuse the shi# out of my Penns in salt and fresh water and have yet to fail me.

I've never had a Plueger, but I do have a Penn baitcaster that I've been using for 22 years with no problems.

Personally, I'd go with an American made Penn...you can't go wrong with proven quality.

I have just the opposite situation- never had a Penn, but have used Pfluegger since I was a kid without ever having a problem. I will say Penn has an outstanding reputation, and I suppose is the best there is, especially for big game fishing. That said, if price the same, I would probably go with Penn.

Knew a guy by the name of Hank Mitchell that wouldn't throw a gob of chicken guts with ANYTHING but a Pflueger Supreme.

Old Hank, rest his soul. Swore by that reel even as he was cussing it and picking out jam-packed black braid all the while.

Old Hank. He was quite a guy.

I vote PFLUEGER......in Hank's absence.

For fresh water purposes I love the pluegar spinning reels and some of their bait casters are decent and I wouldn't mind putting a few in my rod box. With that being said if you are an avid salty dog then PENN PENN PENN! They are some of the best fishing reels ever made hands down bar none no exception. I clean and service reels for a living and I really like my penn's and I wouldn't trade them for any other.

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.
