Here's to your recovery Guy. We have all done some of the burn stuff when we were young.

Everytime I go to the doctor now, I get about 4 or five crusty spots frozen off. (Pre-cancers)

Guy,
It's hard to hear one of your heroes has cancer. Dang man, take care of yourself and we'll wet a hook.
Everybody...Don't wait on sunshine days to grease up! Cloudy days are sneaky culprits as well. The damaging UV rays pass right through clouds like they weren't there. I know some of my worst burns have been on overcast days.

Guy, I'm thankful that you did catch it early and hopefully got completely rid of it. Skin cancer is nothing to fool around with. My first wife got it and it almost took her life. Had to have all her lymth nodes removed and that's an ugly procedure.

Thanks for the warning to our group. In my uneducated opinion those sun ways aren't as harmless as they were in our teens (I'm 67). Much better to be safe than sorry!!!

GUY,

You made two really good points. I think the most important is to always Cover skin and if you can't cover, like you said, use sunblock. I used to think my granddad was crazy because he always wore a long-sleeved loose shirt, long pants and a hat. Of course, you think you'd feel warmer with the long clothes, but you really don't. You don't feel warmer, because your skin is not being burned.

Guy..don't know you personally but I think with that one article you have already helped several dozen fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts to get back on the "Sun Screen Wagon"...

I read each post and something that I did not see that intrigues me...several mentioned long sleeved shirts. UV rays penetrate them...have any of you used the SPF 30-40-50 rated long sleeved shirts? I have a friend that was advised by his dermatologist to start wearing them when outside in the sun. There are several companies that manufacture them and the 50 is, of course, the best. My wife wears one of the white ones as a beach coverup. She swears that she stays cool in it, even in Florida. Yeah, I ain't smart enuff to have bought one for myself yet, but am going to!....Good luck to you Guy, and everyone else that spends time in the sun..../Mike)
