Had 11 year old angler Zach and his grandpa with me for a 1/2 day trip today. We were fishing Lake Fork Twitch Worms and I told him if I got a bite, I'd feed the fish slack and let him take my rod to feel what a bite is like, then have him set the hook and reel him in. Not long after, I felt one pick up and handed it over to Zach. He fights it like a champ and looks at the bass in amazement saying, "that's huge, it's my biggest bass ever!". I told him that with a little luck, he'd catch a bigger one before the end of the trip.

Zach picked up his rod again, casts out and a few seconds later, he sets the hook. The spinning rod and 12 lb FluoroHybrid Pro line aren't moving at all, so I figure he hooked a tree. On guide trips, thats usually a safe assumption. wink About 2 seconds later it is clearly not a tree and his reel starts screaming as drag is going out. Then the fish rocketed to the top and jumps. All 3 of us uttered statements to the effect of thats huge and I scrambled to the net. After a little complaining that his arms are starting to hurt violin, Zach pulled this 7 lb 12 oz tall but skinny supermodel to the boat. He went on to put on a worm fishing clinic the rest of the afternoon. Kid definitely has skillz! All smiles the rest of the day for Zach, grandpa and the guide. Good times!
