Tommy, any idea when those reels will be released? I totally agree, the newer units are so much smaller. I am looking forward to purchasing a few. Any new toys in the bag of late?

They will probably come out around Christmas. When I was doing the seminars at the Expo, I met a man who has designed a jig that has a lead body that should work well probing the drop offs and ledges in the wintertime. I will let you know how they do.

James/Jerry,

Are you saying you just "measure" your line with your rod as you let it out each time?

Oldmerc,

if you are using a 8' rod. Let the line down to the butt of the handle and you are at 8'. Now you can pull the line from the reel to the first eye. On most rods this is right at 2'. Just remember how many pulls you were when you caught a fish.

Good deal! Let me know when the gent is ready to sell some of his jigs. I will try them out as well. I need to contact the gent that is on Rowe Lane in Pfl that makes custom rods.

Thanks for the update! Cya on the lake.

That makes sense. I have actually had my line get caught on that thing before and cussed it because I was thinking, "Who in their right mind would put that thing there to get you line all fouled up on." I never realized it was intended for that and it acutally had a useful purpose.

I feel like a comedian should walk up to me and pronounce, "Here's your sign".

I've got a 10' Slabseeker that I've been jiggin timber with and it was a 12" measure on the rod itself. Easy to feed out line to a specific depth using it.

How do you do the line pulls with a spinning reel? I know it is easy with a baitcast, but everytime I do it with a spinning reel, the line starts coming out too fast to count.

Loosen your drag and leave the bail closed. Just yank it off and let the drag keep the tension.

Im sitting hear thinking about you trying to pull off line with the bail open and can see a big ol' mess for sure.
