Because everybody before you has kept everything over 1o" just like you would have....

We catch a lot 9 7/8" fish on community holes. Time to look for another place to fish. wink

Move out from the dock(s) into 12-15 foot of water and start looking for irregular bottom features/brush and you'll find the bigger ones. What's the water temp? What size jig/bait are you using? What kind of retrieve are you using? What kind of depth finder do you have and is it on the troll motor?

Cedar Creek is about 70-71 degrees and I have yet to fish any docks the last couple of trips out and have done well in 12-15 feet of water object fishing with 1/8 and 1/4 oz. jigs. I have an Eagle 320 on my trolling motor and it is the berries! I can pinpoint any object and darn near drop a jig right on it.

Move. Don't be afraid to go deeper and experiment. Many times you can be moving the jig too fast. Sometimes you just need to "tap" the bottom once and just lift it off and hold it still. Sometimes they like a little glide motion. Mainly, they will take it when it is sitting still.

Think, presentation, presentation, presentation...get Ernest's video and use it to help yourself. All you need to know about how to find and catch crappie on any lake is in that video.

I`ve had the same problem all spring. I`ve caught a lot of crappie this year but only a few big ones. Also, the keepers i have caught out at Ray Bob have been really skinny and didn`t leave a lot of meat. The lewisville keepers have been good though.

Thank you.

Thanks Redfin..but i am just fishing off my boat dock. IF i take the boat out its not for crappie. I caught dam near 100 sandies yesterday and accidentally came across a 2.5# crappie in open water!! Under my dock though i just can't fathom catching 50 fish with only about 1 or 2 being keepers!!!...something's weird....any more thoughts on it???

It's been my experience that the crappie have cycles. One year 100/day 8-9" the next year 10-15 all 12 inchers. Keep the hole baited for shad and they'll big and fat come November.

I agree with Brush Hawg, it's becuause everyone keeps EVERY keeper crappie they catch!! Does anyone REALLY need to go out and catch and keep 25 crappie 4 or 5 days in a row? If we are catchin the BIG crappie we will impose a voluntary 12" to 13" in limit upon ourselves to ensure that we will have more to catch later!

I realize that most on here will eat everything that they catch but I know that some of the folks that you see with 3 or 4 man limits of crappie or sandies for that matter don't utilize all of what they harvest!

This kinda turned into a rant and I sorry, but I feel that some folks catch and keep them just due to the sheer fact that they can...... and that is all!!

You're probably right Kevin....but don't worry 'boat the rant....it needs to be ranted about. We only need to keep enough fish to have a nice dinner. Why try to fill the freezer for the rest of the year...then why would you go fishing? Fresh fish is better anyways. Maybe I was lied to but my neighbor went up to the docks about a week before I started crappie fishing and said he caught 60 keepers in an afternoon. With my experience in the last few weeks this can't be...or he caught all the good 'uns. mad
