I've never been salt water fishing. Am thinking of going these days. Could anyone recommend a beginner rod(with reel) for jetty fishing. My budget is $40.Thanks

If you've never done it and don't know if you'll ever do it again then $40+/- combo from Academy might be a good investment. If you plan to spend more time doing this type fishing then I'd recommend getting something that's going to last. Something of a little higher quality.
Go with a rod of about 10 feet in length and rated for 20 to 30 lb. line. A big spinning reel with enough a lot of capacity for 20 or 25 lb. mono.
Or you can just rent some tackle from a local shop until you figure out if this type fishing is for you.

How much is it usually to rent a fishing rod from a tackle shop? If you've never done it and don't know if you'll ever do it again then $40+/- combo from Academy might be a good investment. If you plan to spend more time doing this type fishing then I'd recommend getting something that's going to last. Something of a little higher quality.

I'm not sure. You could start by calling some bait and tackle shops in the area that you intend to fish.
