say rookie right now the wind has been real bad out of the south. if the wind will slow down then i would fish the rock on the beach front.i useally start with dead shrimp on bottum with a one to two ounce wieght to catch +sand trout,whiting,blackdrum,.andcroakers.with the smaller fish cut them up into 1 to 2 inch pieces. fish them on bottum as far out as you can cast with a four to six ounce weight and a num4 to 6 hook.i always catch sharks in the 3 to 4 ft range.any other questions just ask in a pm or my email is randallrobison@att.net

I dont live near galveston but enjoy fishing there. Can any one tell me if there are plans to rebuild any of the fishing piers? I tried to look online but I cant find much info.

yes...the 61st street pier will hopefully be open by spring break of next year...the layout will be a little different though.

Have they cleaned up the area so you can get around without tearing up your boat in the bay?

Have been reading these threads and hearing about catches of sharks and sand trout. Anyone catching any bull reds at the jetty, reds or specs any where around galveston?

trout are all in the surf even on stiff south southwest winds and rough seas you just got to use the right stuff and you will catch them. i use live croaker on the bottom and catch trout in those conditions. it seems like the rougher it is the better for fishing on the bottom but when it calms down alot i will use a popping cork with either live shrimp or croaker. for the more quality fish use croaker but live shrimp will still get you quality fish too but it will catch you more little schoolies and sandtrout.

good luck
