The wife is taking our daughter up to Michigan to visit her mom and dad for about 10 days at the beginning of August and I will have 9 days on my own, and a chance perhaps to do a little exploring.
Thinking about fishing Ray Roberts, for one. Would love to have some suggestions for other places to explore. I will take the tube just about anywhere. Looking for a lake I haven't fished... which is most of them, anyway.
Thoughts? Anything north of say, Waco, south of Texoma, West of say, Louisiana, and East of Abilene I guess is in play...

have you been to Fairfield ? I really dont know about the fly fishing for Redfish, they are spooky & dont tail in the flats like on TV (or the coast) but there are very large bluegill in Fairfield also...Fork might be fun in tube (I know it can be fun in a boat), hell man, ya might wanna put up a map of Texas & throw a dart, its bound to hit a decent spot

Fairfield could be really cool. The water temp might be a little uncomfortable after a while in your tube though. I do know this guy with a boat that doesn't live too far from there though...

Fairfield's not a bad idea... I thought about Fork but it just seems like high summer AND a tube, maybe it's not worth the drive.
I'll check out Fairfield, though, for sure. Also thinking about Purtis Creek, perhaps.

Purtis could be good either way. Plus if you go in the tube alone, it's relatively safe since the whole lake is a no wake zone.

Ray Roberts for Carp and Gar, Possum Kingdom Dam for Stripers, carp and buffs, Fairfield for bluegills, Texoma for smallmouth bass.

This is slightly out of range but well worth it. The Blue River up near Tishomingo OK. It's mostly known for trout in the winter. But there is some fine warm water fishing and great scenery. Wet wading and tubing opportunities, smallies, spotted bass, bream, black bass, etc.

I went up there a couple times over the winter and walked in to the catch & release area for trout fishing. I liked it and would consider going back... definitely a thought. Thanks!

#1 Go fish for stripers in the Red River below Texoma ! the water is cool. 1 hr drive... As long as they aint generating, a float tube works great. Generating has been 2:00 PM - 6:30PM for weeks now http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/power/hydropower.html#DENII especially like the larger pool below the pilings, as we caught bigger fish there. All you need to do is throw a clouser and STRIP FAST ! JackM U ever go there ? #2 Float Tube Texoma around Eisenhower, and dream of small mouth #3 GO to the Brazos below Possum Kingdom. Go to Rochelles at hw 4, tube up stream, there is plenty of deep water.. Sleep at Rochelles, the next AM go to hwy 4, ( the dam) float / walk down stream a bit the come back up. On the way home take Hwy 16 S to Strawn and eat Chicken Fried Steak at Marys. ( has Russell been there? )
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Good fun and might be just the thing for a dawn-patrol session. Always seems like combat fishing to me but maybe I'm just picking the wrong times. Never thought of tubing it, I've always bank-fished or waded into the mono-minefield. I did tube around Eisenhower for a short while the morning of the Texoma on the Fly event back in June. Nice spot. I'm liking the Brazos below PK idea. Never been there. This "week off" seems like a good opportunity to hit places I've never been as well as some local spots too.

If you have not tried it yet, you might give Loy Lake a try some time. I can't think of a better lake for a float tube. I have always prefered starting about daybreak with a light brim rod and foam spiders and moving on tocap spiders or woolly buggers later when the surface action tapers off.
I have always been curious about Martin Creek Lake south of Longview, but I have never tried fishing it's state park.
Big Dale
Have fun with this stuff.
