ribbonfish & menhaden work really well...... get you some kingfish rigs & some BIG splitshots place a single splitshot above the leader to get the bait down. Troll it behind your Yak & add another splitshot until you find what depth their at. Be careful out there the mouth of those jetties can get pretty nasty real quick............. Rob

You better use a steel leader for sure. Catching one of those large Kings in a Yak would be a blast. Hold on tight.

Use 2 or 3 hooks along the length of the ribbonfish.

Go to Port A Outfitters and buy some kingfish rigs and ribbonfish. Put 1/2oz egg sinker on the main line, ahead of the leader. Put a skirt on ahead of the sinker.
Be very careful at the end of the jetties on a yak...lots of boat traffic, ship traffic and crew boats. Those crew boats can throw a nasty wake. Also, lots of current from different directions.

Go catch some piggys or mangrove snapper. Get a steel leader and a nice size circle hook. Hook that mangrove snapper or perch and freeline it at the mouth of the jettys. Had some really good luck with that method. Don't use the mangroves past nine miles out if you are in a boat because they are federally regulated.

We got skunked but im definitely goin out for another try next weekend What was the water like? I've been itchin to go again really bad. Just need to find the time & money before gas skyrockets to $4 a gallon again. What methods did you try? Maybe someone can offer you up some tips knowing what you tried?? Good to see you made it back and didn't wind up in Davey Jones Locker lol Rob

We tried trawling ribbonfish on kingfish leaders off the end of the jetties and in the mouth of the channel. We thought about going out to the rigs but thats just a little too far of a paddle. No one else was catching any kinds either
