Lye Soap for bait?

My neighbor told me to use Lye Soap as bait for catfishing. I grew up catching catfish on frozen shrimp, worms and chicken livers but I've never heard of using Lye Soap. Has anyone ever tried it and is it successful?

I've heard that somewhere too. I also read that WD40 is a good attractant. Personally, I love the smell of WD40, but am skeptical about using it for fishing. I'm interested in seeing the responses you get from your question Vidilynn.

I dont know about the soap but wd-40 yes! I was skeptical about it when me and some buddies were trout fishing in utah, he covered his night crawlers in wd-40! I told him to be sure he casts away from me and my line cause I didnt want that [censored] near my bait. He was catching 3 fish to my one! I finally had enough and told him to pass the WD ! I would have never believed it without seeing it, now I use it in my dip baits instead of veg oil to soften it up when needed. So far so good

Zote soap also works ok and is great for washing you hands also
