You start with a few of these...

Then you do this

Put it on this

And enjoy

We took a long awaited trip back to an area we knew so well for 8 plus years last week- the Conejos River in Colorado. The Rivers was pretty crowded all week but seclusion could be found along Elk Creek, Grouse Creek and the "private" sections of the Conejos. Caught enough trout to satisfy my itch after about an hour of some very sloppy casting. Landed a pair of 14 inch bows about 15 yards apart and lost a nice brown in the main current at the end of an s curve just past the Highway 17 bridge (those came on nymphs with a dry indicator). It was still too early for hoppers but the orange stimulator in 12 and 14 and the 12-14 Adams provided a lot of takes from the brookies, bows and browns. My wife may argue but I did not spend that much time fishing as this was a journey to rekindle my love of this river, the valley and its people. It was my first trip back since my Dad passed away. If you are driving up 17 and see this sign, don't throw out any trash or help a fellow TFF'r out and clean up a bit

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I can hear that trout screaming from here...that's no way to hold a trout!

I Thought the same thing! Hope it was one that ended up in the tin foil, as back in the water it was probably doomed.

that photo was shot of a trout that went to the cookout
i almost never have to touch a trout that is to be released and use barbless or pinch down the barbs with a tool

fished in colorado for many years and have released hundreds of trout- but thanks for your advice

I will finally be getting there today. Took a side trip to the Davis Mountains to look at the stars and am ready for the driving to be over. Will be there for four days and hope to have a good report when I get a chance to post again.

I will be looking for your sign as I travel up that way. Thanks again to all for all the information you have shared and I hope I can put it all to good use.
