There are some nice crappie on Grapevine but they are a challenge, particularly this time of year. It may be difficult to just go to a spot and catch crappie. It's much easier in the Spring. From what I've learned you really have to know the lake, structure, and crappie habits as well as how to apply the right techniques. I am still a newbie but have been focusing heavily on Grapevine crappie from a boat because it's close to where I live.
Some gents that monitor this forum fish for crappie on Grapevine and have a lot more experience with the lake than myself. They could likely provide much better information. Please let me know if my assessment of Grapevine is incorrect.
Crappie can be caught but it will likely take some work and real know-how and trying many spots on the lake using various techniques.
In addition to preping for crappie you might also consider sand bass. This past weekend the sand bass were hitting all over Grapevine. That might be an simplier or alternative path to put her on some fun fish to catch. Plus if you get in a mess of feeding sand bass they will hit like crazy.
Bring appropriate lures and try the bubbles and the birds. Check the white bass section for some recent updates on the vine.
Here is how I prepared some of the so called "trash fish". I'd like to try with crappie some time. Folks say sand bass are better prepared and cooked fresh, unfrozen. I would agree. These were great!
