Went out Friday morning for the first time in my 14" yak. The wind was flat but built up to less than 10 feet. Having never fished Ray Roberts before I had no idea what I was doing. I worked the rocky bank but noticed that the fish were piling up around 15-18 feet on my depth finder. So I tied on a silver shad rap and worked the stumps in that depth.

I experienced my first boil up and knew the obvious signs of fish chasing up shad. Every cast I had white for a few minutes. I noticed the pattern of the whites gathering and then chasing up the shad. I followed the same boil for about 20 minutes and had a blast. After it died down, I went to trolling, my second favorite method of yak fishing. Caught a nice large mouth bass. Saw a boil up again about 150 yards, I paddled as hard as I could and caught the tail end of the chase and caught another few.

In short, my first trip to Ray Roberts was a good one and will return again.

Does anyone know where to buy minnows on Ray Roberts? One of my favorite methods of fishing is to park my yak and hang a minnow on a circle hook, read a good book and wait for the fish to come to me.

All the fish I caught was on the east side of the ramp on the opposite side of the road/bridge. Good luck and good fishing.

Where are you coming from? U might be able to get them at the dam store. I know u can buy bait at the marina and also the sportsman and snap shop on 455 in Sanger. Hope this helps. I just bought a yak and am planning on getting it out there soon.
