Before you buy used make sure you run it for at last an hour with at least one extended run at full throttle. There are engine problems that can arise that are real hard to diagnose and you can spend a lot of shop time if not money getting one of these right. Compression can check out and spark can check out but they can still have problems.

I would definitely look towards used and like others have said there are some great deals out there. BE VERY CAREFULL ABOUT PRO STAFF BOATS OR DEMOS, in fact I would avoid most all of them. You may get an upgrade when it comes to electronics, but in most cases they are rarely very well taken care of. Sometimes you get lucky with price and quality but that is more slim.

I personally waited and kept an eye open on various marine dealership websites until I found one that got my interest. After a year of constantly looking and waiting, I found an '07 Triton 21X2 w/DC with only 10 hours on it for sale at NTM. Before taxes and everything, ended up being 32,995. Warranty still good until May of 2010.
For the most part the boat was virtually unused and garage kept. Couple of minor dings but everything else perfect. I have only had one issue with it, which was the lower unit on the trolling motor had a bad seal and was getting water in it. Took it in and NTM immediately took the trolling motor off, put a loaner on and sent me on my way. Couple weeks later I come back and get the trolling motor back with a brand new lower unit it for no money out of my pocket.
I would recommend just keep your eye out, and sooner or later one will just be right there in front of you waiting. I looked at a lot of boats before this one, and when I saw this one, it was 36 hours from the initial time I saw it online, until I had put money down on it.

New boats are very nice but paying cash for something and having titles in hand is great and not a payment book in hand is so much better

If electronics are the issue, go ahead and spend the 2G and get top of the line. It is still better than 40000. If you are needing a bigger boat or having motor troubles that is a different story. I have a 94 Champion 20+ ft. I will probably upgrade the motor and electronics soon, but will still save over 30K by not buying a new boat. If you like your hull, everything else can be upgraded and you can save money to go fishing. Having a sweet new boat, but not enough to take it fishing would be a horrible fate. Just my 2 cents.

New boats are very nice but paying cash for something and having titles in hand is great and not a payment book in hand is so much better Amen Brother!!!!!!!! I would rather have some reasonable repair bills and be able to choose how much I spend to get it fixed and when. Instead of a mandatory monthly payment that is higher and would be the first thing to go if a job change or illness occured. Thats why I run a 22 year old Cajun with a freshly rebuilt engine thats paid for. Obama can't take that!!!!!
