Fished Conroe yesterday morning for about five hours. Went to the 1097 bridge first and between seven and eight, caught three. Got an 11", 13" and 14". Got a couple of other bites that I missed. Fished the bridge for a couple of hours, but the wind had gotten up to the point out of the SE that the waves were up to the point that you couldn't tell if you had a bite or not with the boat bouncing up and down. Went up Caney Creek and fished some brush without any luck. Back to the bridge for about another hour and caught another 11". About noon, I decided that I had had all the fun that I could stand for one day. This morning's Outdoor Report in the Houston Chronicle quoted Butch Terpe on crappie fishing at Conroe as "spotty at best". That is certainly correct!

You did better than I did on Sunday afternoon.

I fish that would of been able to be boxed. A couple of undersized fish and a bream.

I couldn't find fish if they would of been calling my name.

I had planned to go out, but fell ill. Looking at the bright-side, guess it was good timing...

Hopefully this latest cold front will start to turn them on, however, the forecast is for it to be back into the 80's by the weekend. Know I read someone's comment a couple of weeks ago that November,December and January were the best months for crappie on Conroe. Know that I did the best this past December and January.

I fished most of Saturday morning without much luck then about 1:00 I found them in about 25' of water right on the bottom. We ended up with 16 keepers and caught several undersize as well. We left them biting around 2:00.

I'm not sure exactly why they were so deep Saturday after having caught them for the last couple weeks in 10' to 14'. You just never know.

The ones I caught were around 16 feet. Tried dropping to the bottom and coming up three turns but no bite. As you say."You just never know"!

Sometimes they like jigs better than minnows, sometimes minnows better and then others they want a jig tipped with a minnow.

The jig colors I like are limetruese, brown, red body with chartruese, and avacado/black panfish assasins.

Silver phantom /Salt n pepper panfish assasins in the early spring is a good choice as well.

1/8 oz unpainted jighead is what I use primarily.

The best colors I have found are blue/white and blue/chartruse. Of the four crappie I caught on Monday morning, the first was on a jig and the other three were on minnows. I always give them a choice!
