Have Sea Star hydraulic steering on a '98 Century bay boat.. While under way at low speed (not on plane), steering seems to be responsive when the wheel is turned either direction.. However, when on plane, I have to turn the wheel almost 3/4 of the way around before "it catches" and finally turns the motor.. Not real comfortable taking it out while it's in this condition..
Any ideas? If not, has anyone had any experience with West Boats in Mesquite? Was thinking about taking it there if it's something I can't take care of myself..

Needs the air bled out of the lines and you prolly have a leaky seal as mentioned before.

Low steering fluid. Check level at helm or top of drivers console. May need to bleed the system. Instructions at their web sight.

+1 on low fluid level. Refill and bleed at the helm. Check your seals for leaks. Replacing them is easy to do and inexpensive. Don't let it go to long or you will lose steering all together. Good luck to you.
