LET'S RESPECT THEM. PLEASE, DON'T BLAST THROUGH THERE AREA, FISH BETWEEN THEM OR RIGHT AROUND THEM. THESE ARE OUR FELLOW FISHERMEN TOO. REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE WAITING FOR FISH TO PASS THROUGH THE AREA OF WATER THEY HAVE ACCESSED. A 60-75 YARD CAST IS NOTHING FOR A HARDCORE BANK FISHERMAN. SOME OF THESE BANK FISHERMEN HAVE GREAT TECHNIC & NICE SIZE WEIGHTS ON THEIR LINES ENABLING THEM TO LAUNCH THEIR BAITS NEARLY A BLOCK FROM WHERE THEY CAST (WHICH COULD BE KNEE TO WASTE HIGH IN THE WATER). THE LONGER THEIR POLES, USUALLY THE FURTHER THEY ARE ABLE TO CAST DEPENDING ON THE USER.

JUST LIKE WE DON'T LIKE IT WHEN OTHERS SHUT IT DOWN RIGHT OVER OUR SURFACING SCHOOLS OR BLAST PAST US WHEN WE ARE CHUNKIN & AWINDING, JIGGING ETC. ETC. THE BANK FISHERMAN DON'T LIKE IT WHEN WE DO SIMULAR DISRESPECTFUL THINGS TO THEM.

Manchu,

Laminate thread. Keep it onboard at all times. Next time you encounter a Bankbeater reach down, grab it, read it again. :~P

Thanks F4F!

I have a good friend who bank fishes here on Fork. He has had people pull right up to where he is fishing if they see him catch one and run accross his line. They have as much right to the water as a person with a boat.

Good post as a bank fisherman i am very limited in where I can go but I have no bad encounters here in texas. I even talk to the boaters from time to time and even had one take a pic of my sons first bass.

fiSh ZoMbiE,

Amen to that brother thumb,

I am one of those bank fishermen, and I really appreciate it when boaters respect our endeavors to fish as well, I fish out at calaveras allmost directly across from the power plant and it is distressing to see boaters downrigging and casting right around where I have just waded out and cast to when they have access to the whole lake. Then you have the Jet Ski's and power boat crowd.....

Thanks for bringing that up.

Laterz,
dafanman coolio

Where did that come from? I applaud your efforts and wholeheartedly agree with you, but those knuckleheads who pay to fish tournaments think their entry fees entitle them to run over our lines and crowd our spots. I say its time all bank fisherman stand up for our rights and let those hoyty toyty boat owners know that we demand some courtesy and respect. Come on JZ chime in anytime.

Nice article. I am a bank beater and want to thank Ben fishing lake Georgetown last Friday. I have talked with him many times. When he sees us fishing, he slows down at least 80 yards away. We share techniques, lure information, etc. Friday he went the extra mile and graciously came over 20 feet from the shore and un-snagged my only like strike lure plus another top water that I snagged when he was coming over. He is a role model. He really like seeing my bank beater buddy pull out a 9 lb hog this week from the bank.

I fish from the bank, and I can cast a long way.

I try my best to put my bait/lure
right in the damn boat with them.

They always leave before I can zero one in.
About 10 feet is my closest so far.

When I was a kid we used to fish from a canoe - it was all my friend and I could afford. Same Clown with a power boat would buzz us trying to swamp the canoe. We started carrying potato sized rocks for throwing purposes. One day really good aim put a rock through the windshield of their boat. Big Fuss - boat owner went and got the game warden. Game warden issued a ticket - not to us, but to the owner of the power boat for being within range of a rock thrown from a canoe. He wasn't stupid - he knew what had happened.
