I took my boat out yesterday and my trolling motor sucked the battery dead in about 20 min. I did trickle charge it full the night before. The battery has been sitting for about 7 months since I have been deployed. That being said, I am in the market for a new battery. I have a 16' Lowe bass boat and a 12v 46lb Motorguide trolling motor. What is the best battery that I can get to get some good trolling time out of? Any particular brand? Where can I get them? What do I look for spec. wise on a trolling battery? I think when I get back for good in December I will hook two batteries up for more capacity. Looking to buy today Thank you for your help! Jeff

Just do the Walmart thing, 2500 stores coast to coast and border to boarder. No matter where you're at, You will be 10 minutes from a store....

Your 12v will have a pretty good draw so get as many reserve amps as you can find, preferably 180-200.

O.K Most reserve amps.... I take it that is how long a battery will last? The more reserve amps the better.
Any particular group? I take it bigger is better?
Thanks again! Jeff

go to wally world and get the 205min reserve grp 27 and it will work good. not much difference in wet cell batterys except the price, most made in same factorys just get a different brand slapped on em. cant beat the price either.

I cut my batt box ends out and put the big Academy Stowaway 31 Series batts in my boat. That pretty much eliminated any issues I had.

I went to the local wal-mart and the biggest I could find was a 115 reserve. Went to sears and a 205 reserve was $189.
I will check a few different wal-marts and see if they have a larger selection.

All good advise, but no one caught the hooking up of two batteries for a 12v trolling motor plan. This can not be done. Your 12v TM is designed for only one battery. If power is an issue, buy the largest capacity battery that you can get.

Well i didn't know that wouldn't work ....guess i been doing it wrong for 30 + years....Better run out to the garage and unhook my two that are hooked together... But i think you need to rethink your statement!!!!
I would agree with you , but then we would both be WRONG !!!!!

It depends on how you hook them up 12v as opposed to crossing to the 24v hook up. I always used interstate 27 series deep cycles for my 24v system but when I bought my new BassCat it came with a set of Trojan batt. and they have performed well. On my little boat and waterwagon that have a 12v trolling system I use one of those big yellow Maxx Deep cycle batt. and have ran them for 6-8 hrs. before they started losing their umph. It is fairly easy to just run one batt. at a time on the 12volt and just switch batt. when one goes dead, I think they last longer than when you run them paralell.
