Hey Guys, Look up Sandjohnny here on the forum. He molds his own slabs for sandbass and a few other lead based item. He can give you a few pointers as the do's and don't of lead melting. Take Care and good luck. I've been casting my own bullets for about 10 years and it sure is fun if you like to roll your own.

most welcome guys.

8oz sinker for $6? Sheesh, I'm in the wrong bidness!!!! I can get lead for free if I want and a good supply of it too ... Maybe I should quit guiding and take up sinker making hahaha. $6 x 41 = $250 and I can whup out 41 sinkers in just an hour or two. that's 80 lbs of lead so I've got about $2,000.00 worth of lead already cleaned up and ready to go.

you really shout clean your lead up outside if possible cause ya'll will get lead poisoning or cancer or something if you breath very much of that stuff. It ain't worth that.

I just came from Wal Mart and 4--2oz sinkers were $3.16, we used to bank fish Texoma a lot and we used spark plugs, and made our own sinkers with a spoon, I found some of our old spoon weights at my dad's last week so I've been using them!!!

It looks good at first but if you figure everthing it is hard to make much money. I have been doing it for many years and I use to sell stuff to bait shops . I give my stuff away all kinds of slabs and weights and lures. Lead use to be cheap but it is a bout a dollar a pound. I don't buy any. The guys I give my stuff to keeps me in lead. Its like I tell the guys if I give them away if I don't like somebody I don't have to give them to them. If I sell them I have to. I have been messing with lead for many years and my wife says it is dangerous because look what it is done me.But I enjoy making stuff.

I was fishing a lake last week and noticed a cast net on the bank...when I looked at it I saw it was torn...they threw it away...I cut all the weights off it..now I have a good supply of weights.

Your fish cookers work good for smelting lead. I used to make weights for ballast on my race cars. A 350 valve cover makes about a 85lb. ballast bar. Got weights at various tire shops. But 5gal cost me 40.00 also. Would make my own have the dyes and all just lead is not as easy to come by. By the way using your cooker you can be outside and have plenty ventilation. That and a cheap mask and your probabaly OKEY DOKEY. Same here LGA my dad had the dyes and now they are mine. DANGIT
