During the dog days of summer, bass fishing can be a challenge as we all know. It would be interesting if we would exchange information concerning which lures and techniques we each use during this period.
I'll start the ball rolling: I fish on a deep, clear-water lake most of the time (Lake Travis). I fish with a little of everything throughout the year, but a plastic worm is my confidence bait. I use a worm almost exclusively during the summer, but I also keep a small twister-tail grub on one spinning rod at all times. I alternate between worming techniques, including the Texas rig, drop shot (D/S) rig, Carolina rig, and split shot rig. I don't enjoy the D/S rig with its dangling tag end, but sometimes in the summer the only way I can catch fish is by using a D/S around deep boat docks. Please share with us what you do during the hot summer days.

not that i have "secrets", but yes on the dog days of summer your best bet is deep, around the thermocline. all my fish have come from soft plastics fished relatively slow. but you gotta find humps, ledges, other structure...

I fish mostly at night or mornings in the summertime. Nights I mostly throw a Midnight Special or black chatterbait On bluff banks or the first 1/2 of creeks. Mornings I start on shallow points close to deep water or creeks with a chugbug Move out to tops of humps or try to fish shaddows with worms when the sun comes up. We don't have hydrilla so that is not an option. I do ocassionly go to Stillhouse and I do fish hydrilla there.

I guess my favorite is topwater frogs; but my most productive is between a dropshot and a tx rigged craw.
Bass fishing is like a 30,000 acre golf course with no flags and five holes you can't see- Tim

I like fishing a weightless sinko or a small swim bait slowly across the bottom. Just fast enought it off the bottom.

Big 'ol DD22's fished parallel to drop-offs. I don't really like fishing them, but they catch fish for me this time of year. Chartreuse with a blue back seem to work best for me.

I basically use 3 setups this time of year:
T-rig soft plastics, spinnerbaits, deep diving crankbaits.

For Kelly Jordon: flutter spoons, deep diving cranks and swimbaits.

Texas rigs, drop shot/shakey head, and jigging spoons if I am out during the day, and Texas rigs and shakey heads and jigs at night. And I have been catching fish in the same areas at night, in deep water. The night fishing for me has been identical to daytime except it is dark and scary, and not as hot.
