here's my 2 cents on fishing LL lately ... the size of the fish seems to be directly linked to the size of the bait in an area. Those smaller fish (sandbass & hybrids alike) sure do boil up on a big area, but they're chasing little bait. The bigger fish are there, but they're not being quite so obvious and they seem to be hanging out in different areas than the little guys.
Went out last night for a short trip. 3 small hybrids & about 20-25 sandies, mostly keepers of 10"-11", with some dinks thrown in. Most fish on a tiny torpedo ... drowned a couple shad with no results on them.

Tried it this morning. Same story..schools where there , alot of dinks caught and some good ones mixed in. Most came on torpedos and slabs worked too. Not many people out there. the schools moved fast today. Didn't find no big bait today at the usual spots. That was weird. all fish released to catch another day.

There seems to be a little interest in the lunch, so I'll start another thread and see how it goes.

Well, back from my afternoon trip ... naturally since I was fishing for blue cats with cut shad, I was catching hybrids. For what its worth, was catching them @ 15-19 feet with the bait suspended about halfway up.
Catch count:
1 blue cat 8lb 2oz (in the fridge you go matey!)
6 hybrids, only one undersized and all released except for one gut-hooked fish (even with 12/0 circle hooks, they STILL get gut-hooked!). Biggest was 7lb 7oz ... found my digital scale stashed in a box!
1 sandbass that apparently thought he was a bigger badarse than the other fish lol
Very pleasant day & no encounters with rude boaters, although I did get to see a little too much of 'loin-cloth man' ... ack! Now I understand what y'all were fussing about lol. However, he and his wife were courteous boaters, so I couldn't complain (much)

12/0 circle hook???????
You could always use those for Marlin fishing once you get tired of catching hybrids!

Took my two nieces and a friend of there's out this morning. Each of them caught a hybrid, and the youngest caught two, along with a few large white's on live bait. None of them had ever caught a hybrid before. At one point two had hybrids on and one had a white at the same time. Needless to say I didn't get in much fishing as I was netting/removing fish, taking pics, rebaiting hooks, etc, but I think I had more fun than they did. And we were home by 8.

Went out about 2 weeks ago, hit the water at 8 am and they were schooling like crazy on the main lake. Went out last week, same time and place, and nothing. Can't figure that d*mn lake out. Gonna try again tomorrow morning. Dan

12/0 circle hook???????
You could always use those for Marlin fishing once you get tired of catching hybrids! Well, when you're using circle hooks, there's not much consistency to the sizing scales - VMC 12/0 circle hooks aren't nearly as large as a Mustad 12/0 circle hook. Nevertheless, I'm going up the sizes till I find a size that can do the job properly - i.e. won't kill the bait too fast, not too big for the fish to get in it's mouth, but not so small that it gets swallowed immediately, etc. You ought to see the hooks I use for catfish!

Fished this morning with Tom Tom. Caught a 6 pound carp in the cast net at the 121 cut along with gizzards and a few threadfins. Lots of boats out early. Most fisherman left around 10 due to slow fishing. We ended up with 4 under hybrids and 7 sandies. Fishing was a whole lot better Thursday in the light drizzel.
