I traded my 92 Ranger 372V in on a 2007 BassCat Pantera IV and absolutely love the new boat. One would never think 1 1/2 feet would give you so much more room. Went from a 150 to a 200 and picked up almost 10 MPH, along with probably 30% more fuel economy. Love the tandem trailer with brakes, and the electronics are absolutely great....Only downside....I went from no payment to a pretty hefty one for 5 years.

I did pretty much the same, sold my 2000 185ZX ans bought an 06 20i for $30,000. Love the new boat!!!! Looked at new, but even with a discount I was looking at $48,000. Also helps to have the service history on what you buy.

To be honest, everyone would love to have a brand new one, including me, but with things like they are, I fish out of my 15yr old nitro, its paid for, has low hours, does faster than i really care to go, can cruse at 55 all day on very little gas, and the fish really dont care how old it is if you know what i mean. Newer boats have a definate advantage if you want to call it that, a little longer, wider, stronger bigger motors, but if you can hang with an older one, why put the expense out for a new one.

I just replaced my '06 bass boat with a new '09. For that I got a five year warranty on my new 200 Evinrude along with a lifetime warranty from BassCat. My plan is to pay it off in three yrs just as I did the old one. But in three yrs I'd like a new truck, so I may wait until I've paid off the truck to replace this boat.

For me my 2000 model = payed for
Any new boat = payments

If you know what to look for you can find a "like new" boat that is over 5-10yrs old. It took me 3 months and my budget was 10k. I absolutly would never, ever, ever finance a boat unless it was used for my profession. Good luck with your decision. For the people that pay 300 to 500 a month on a boat and get a new one every 5 to 10yrs, more power to ya, but if you put that money into a good growth mutual fund for 30yrs it would equal over 3 million. New boats are nice and I admire them for sure but that is not worth it to me unless I am loaded......which unforunatly I AM NOT DANG IT!

mine is a little different situation I only have about 130 hours on my motor, no probs yet thank god. Has been either covered or garaged all its life, only major repairs on it are a new water pump every two years, trailer problems and new trolling motors so untill things get a lot better, im using her, cant do a 4 or 5 hundred a month payment for a new one at this time

Once the old boat continues to have costly repairs, then it's time to buy a newer used boat.....I'll never buy a NEW boat again.

Do the research....find the right boat for you and buy what you can pay cash for...thats my motto on this subject.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Hey,
Fun-n-Sun has a couple of great deals right now. Check in the Boats for sale section and get the website. Also, most marine dealers have websites with thier used boats pictured and listed.
Hope this helps. Oh, I would go with "gently used". Sometimes if you are getting it from a dealer you can get them to upgrade the electronics to make the sale.
