I had some friends went to Galveston last week or week before and they said they were in not even knee deep water and said 2 ft sharks were swimming around all around them, like schooling.... Can anyone confirm this and also if they are just babies are the adults lurking just a little deeper?? And would it be like that all along the Gulf Coast?? Thanks
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway...

As I tell tourist all the time. Sharks live in saltwater...the ocean...it is their home. As soon as you step off of the dry sand and into the water you are entering their realm. Every beach, anywhere in the world, has sharks, period.
Texas has very few reported shark bites. You are more likely to be stung by a jellyfish or hit by a stingray.

Don't stand too close to the fishermen. I've live in TX my whole (42 yr) life and have had no runins with sharks at the beach. I've seen a few caught but from farther out than sensible people swim. 2 footers ain't really much shark with all that tail and all.
Once in a while everyone should have a little saltwater therapy.

Of course sharks live in the ocean... BUT you NORMALLY dont SEE them in large numbers swimming around your feet Land Pirate....Or do you see them doing that all the time?? Ive lived in Corpus before and have been going to the beach all my life but have never heard of sharks in those numbers up in the shallows like that before... My question was did anyone else see the unusual numbers of them in recent weeks?? Yes 2 footers are small I just thought it was odd what they saw...

I wasn't trying to be a smart arse...I meet lots of folks that actually believe that since they're swimming at a beach, within a city, that there aren't any sharks in that water.
I have seen them in large numbers like that on occasion. I've also seen 6 footers up in less than a foot of water (first gut). A friend flies an ultralight out of the Port A airport and he swears that if you saw what he sees from the air that you wouldn't wade off the beach anymore.
He says he sees very large sharks swimming among swimmers all the time. And the swimmers are totally clueless to their presence.

Thats okay Pirate. I just took it the wrong way I guess. Youve got me curious now about seeing it from the air...Does your friend still go in the water after seeing them like that??

Actually he does. There's a helicopter charter that works out of the Port A airport. I'd love to go up with him sometime and cruise the beach front to look at the sharks swimming among the clueless tourist.
I've fished the third sandbar many times and seen many varied sea creatures out there. One day I was swarmed by baby manta rays no more than 12" across. Very cool. Of course sharks love rays so there were probably lots of sharks there too. I've seen the sharks, been bumped by them but (knock on wood) so far nobody has tried to taste my legs yet.

Galveston is always full of sharks.. We wade West Bay all the time and see them on a constant basis, well in July mostly.
Back in 04 a few peeps got nipped by sharks right after the other and started a minor scare.
The only place I ever get "Jaws Phobia" is down south in Padre. Something about surf fishing alone on a 5 mile stretch of beach will toy with your mind. Especially during sunset.
That and last year during the Annual Sand Castle Tournament on SPI, I saw a monster and I mean MONSTER Tiger cruising the second gut.
Wooo!

A couple of times each fishing trip when I am surf fishing some family will start swimming near by . When I bring in a shark , mommy will come over and give me hell about drawing sharks to that water by fishing . I try and tell her that they live there and my 2 extra mullets [ out of the 1000's out there ] are not drawing in a herd of sharks . They mostly just tell me they are going to "report" me for fishing on a beach .

Yes sharks. The bull sharks are the only one that might try to see if you are any good. Catch some bull mullet cut the tails of you will need steal leaders.
