Just recently got the crappie bug. Wanted to know if any one ever have luck in Marine Creek Lake in FW for crappie. This is a perfect size lake for my kayak and wanted to give this a try. Any tips on this lake would be appreciated. Thinking about hitting it Saturday morning.

Marine Creek is an ok lake for crappie, the best I've found is launch on the west side of the lake and try the cove by the ramp and fish along the shoreline. There are other people who fish this lake and have brush piles set out but you need to know where they are to do any good.I've also found that there are some good sandies along the damn in the warmer months.Heck I think i might head out there this saturday as well..lol
Good luck.

Caught me a few Marine Creek Lake crappie this evening. It was my first trip. Jig and bobber did the trick. Fish weren't as shallow as I though they would be. I'm guessing the cooler weather had them pushed out a little. Ended up catching three once I finally found them, all keepers. One was 13". The bank I fished was shallow, had a rocky bottom, reeds and willows on the edge of the water. Those seem to be the right combo for spawning crappie, don't they?

Will probably go back tomorrow with minnows. It would be nice to catch some fish on my day off.

I have been catching crappie in the coves near reeds and willows in about 3-4 foot of water. averaging about 12 keepers and a few small ones.
Cut banks in the back of coves (creek) very productive. Bobber and minnow or jig about 12 inches down. I started using a 12ft rod w/ 12 ft of line to work the bank. caught alot of bass also
one that was 19inches long and another monster that broke the line after jumping out of the water a few times -no drag to help wear him out just 12 ft of line on basically a cane pole. Have fished out there 3 time in the past 10 days. last day out was on the 21st. Most of the crappie had spawned out or were males so time is running short I guess. only about 4 or 5 of the crappie i caught still had eggs.

By the way it was a fluke that I fished Marine Creek was headed somewhere else with my son but decided it was too windy. nice surprise though and that bass that broke my line -fun fun fun. I almost had a heart attack when he came out of the water, was surprised to wsee bass that big there. heck the one i got in was 19 inches but that second one was alot heavier.

Good luck

Anybody doing Marine Creek soon? Might head out there this evening. Caught nothing but LMB on my second trip out there in the same area I was catching crappie before.
