You keep beating around the one question a lot of us are thinking...
Did you release it?
I mean, I am not pro catch and release but something like this, I tend to lean that way.

We don't have any pictures of this cause the photographer had put the camera back in the truck and was helping us hold the shark in the water...

Congratulations on a fine fish! I know next to nothing about shark fishing, but I am really interested in the technique for holding a monster like that out in the surf till it revives well enough to take off. Specifically, how do you safely avoid the possibility after the shark revives and before you can get clear, of him making one of those bend-in-the-middle sideways thrashing moves and taking a football sized chunk of thigh muscle out of someones leg? - or worse?? Just wondering, but a big well done to all of you for the effort and success to release that monster alive and swimming.

Wow, what an awesome shark! What is the state record?? That has to be pretty close?? It is a beautiful big shark! One to be proud of landing and releasing. The TX state record Bull shark is a bit over 500 lbs. right now. Cheers, tp

Wow, what an awesome shark! What is the state record?? That has to be pretty close?? Current record is 108inches and 515lbs. This fish was somewhere between 108 and 110 and probably close to 540lbs, but we botched the measurements and at the time didn't think it was that big of deal because none of us knew what the current record was. Learned that it pays to know what the current records are so you dont screw yourself outta one...

Good to hear you released it. To fight something that size from the shore must have been awesome.
Yes you can trust the Government, just ask the Indians.

After a shark is stressed from a fight like that, and being beached for a little while, the last thing it will be interested in is biting someone. They bite to feed, not to defend.

...the last thing it will be interested in is biting someone. They bite to feed, not to defend. This is often the case, but sharks can be very unpredictable. One minute they are calm and subdued: Then things can change in an instant: This guy came REAL close to having his knee mangled by this shark. He had never been around a beached shark before. Sharks are very powerful and demand your attention: I am not posting this to rip anyone. I am just trying to illustrate how fast things can happen when landing and releasing sharks. The shark above was released to grow even bigger! Cheers, tp
