I'm staying at Gulf Shores for the week. Haven't been very successful so far. I've caught some whiteys and catfish in the second gut at night on cut mullet. Went down to the jetty by the pier tonight and no luck once again. I would like to catch one fish over a pound, but I've tried everything I know to do. I think if I could get out past the 3rd sandbar I would have better luck, but the surf has been extremely rough the past two days. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. I've got two more days to get it done.I just want one pic of a big fish. Thanks.

Try the surf early in the morning starting around 6:00AM with soft plastics. The trout come in very close at this time and I can usually catch them in knee deep water. The bite lasts until around 8:00AM or a little longer if you have cloud cover. My best producer has been a small Cocahoe minnow in purple with a white tail rigged with a quarter ounce lead head. Some mornings are better than others, but I always seem to catch something including 18 inch and up trout quite frequently. I got tired of fighting the surf years ago and stay away from the second and third bars. In fact, I usually fish inside the first bar.

Fish early, the wind is down in the mornings. Fish a dark bait with a paddle tail. or maybe a she dog. find birds down teh beach and then its on. The surf is gnarly right now so thats why its so tough. There really are good fish there, but the beach is hundreds of mile long, you just have to find the sweet spot!

I just wanted to give you guys an update. I was able to get out to the 3rd sandbar today with live piggys. I caught some blacktips so I'm thrilled. Thanks for the help.
