Stan That is some awesome fishing. Why would anyone want to waste time at the beach!? The wall of shame is within my grasp if I respond

I could of sworn Peacock Bass were stocked somewhere in Texas, but didn't make it. South Texas would probably be okay for them, but North Texas would be too cold, I would think. I wish they had them around here, they look like a blast to catch!

What about those power plant lakes.... don't they only get down into the high 60 degree water temperature?
Anything below 64 or 65 would kill them off.

They are a wonderful fish. But I imagine that with their extreme aggression that TPWD would be a bit reluctant to introduce them where they could flourish. But that's just my theory.

Oh but think about the fights between them and the redfish. You'd have a ringside seat to the heavyweight championship of freshwater.

Your right about them being aggressive. I'll catch 50 peacock for every largemouth. But that might be because of the fishes feeding habits. For largemouth.. think slow and deep. For peacock think shallow and fast. If you see a peacock bass chasing your lure speed up, take it away from him. Do Not slow down or stop. Most bass fisherman strike or set the hook too soon and miss the fish.... I tell them to just keep a steady retrieve and the fish will set the hook for you.

I've seen video of guys catching them on the Amazon and it looks like wild, crazy fishing. They sound tailor made for chasing with the whippy stick.

Wilkes power plant was stocked with peacocks in the late 70's, unfortunately it was only open to SWEPCO (at the time, now AEP) emplyess, a buddy of mine caught a few, he said they were hard fighters for their size, at that time 2 to 4 lbs. During a routine shutdown for maintenance the water got to cold and they all died, never re-stocked that I heard about (if I did I think I'd figure out a way to get in there).
