I have a giant spool of weed eater line made by Shakespear. Same company that makes line and other fishing gear.

Heard some folks use it for leaders.

For those that do: Do you use crimps or tie knots? Is is good for shark with a swivel and a 16 cicle hook etc? Is it better than wire. I heard sharks may detect metal in your wire leaders and hook.

Weed eater line is best used for edging you lawn...

Stick to quality mono or cable if you want to catch sharks.

An edger is used for edging silly. Wseed eater line is used for weed eating errrr trimming. I guess I need to buy my leaders.

Saw some small cabel at the harware store and crimps yesterday. Was thinking it needed to be coated though. Not much option when your this far from the beach. Just wait until I get there.

If I buy leader making stuff at BASS Pro, whoat exactly would I need for small to medium shark?

300-500 mono is perfect..

Cable isn't required really for S to M sharks but if you want you could go with a 300# cable to 400# mono and that should be fine in case a bigger shark shows up.

Weed eater line? No.. Stick to a quality mono.

I crimp 90% of the time. Loop crimp, haywire twist then crimp again.

sharks can sense the magnitic signature of metal thats why i buy coated cable and ive seen crimp free shark leaders this is how i make mine for yaking i use about 12 feet of 0.95 weedeater line if you want heavier i would get a bigger diameter then i use a swivel with a snap then attach six feet of coated 250 pound cable then a 20/0 mustard hook i attach a wieght to the snap swivel btw the way i use crimps smile

heres a story about my experience with weedeater string

i used to work on an offshore drilling rig. we were 80 miles off of houma, La in 310 ft of blue water. when we fished we only use weed eater string no pole just hands. a pole with line was a little cumbersome to deal with on the helicopter.

Any ways. I caught a ton of fish on weed eater string i just tied it, i am no pro though. we caught blur runners (terd hustlers) and pulled them to the top slapped them on top of the water and caught medium sized shark and large barracuda. i caught some real good snapper. BUT, the amberjack woill do a number on some weed eater string. I would send a soft plastic lure down to the bottom and jig it a while. All of the sudden wham. got one. it would start swimming straight up. i would pull the line in as fast as possible and all the sudden he would turn around and head straight down and bust the weedeater string.

sorry it is long winded.
