Is there a rule of thumb for how deep to sink these lights?

My light is lowered down 2 to 3 ft. underwater. I use a white or green light.

ditto..
2-3 ft down if in deep water. That keeps the bait uip shallow and Crappie look up when feeding. You want the bait fish between the light and where the fish hang out.

2-3 ft. keeps from so many tangles with the lines

East TxFisher, I usually let them down 3-5 ft. I have started first with 12 ft deep thATS how much line I havo on mine, then I pull em up about 1 ft every 5 minutes I think this helped when fishing in 20 ft water thats juast my findings

If I remember right the several different lights I use all say 2' deep.

They also say never hook them up until they are already in the water and not to take them out of the water until they have been unhooked at least 1 minute to cool.

My dad always said to put the light in the water and get it on before the sun actually goes down. This way before the fish go on their way to wherever they go in the night they congregate near the light and its better fishing. Anyone heard of this ?

I dunno but I have had 2 of the green lights "stop working" on me the past few years and I suspect it is from me plugging them in briefly while out of the water to test the connection. Not really sure what the difference is...but at $24.00 or so I guess I need to start following the directions a little closer smile

Captain Cook the only thing I have heard about that is if you put in your lights before dark it will not spook the fish that are there. However the same guy said if you don't get them in before dark it will spook them but soon will get over it and get back to normal.

Good info. I've had one but haven't used it yet.
