Well its funny to see other reports about how great and consistant the fishing is this summer...The only thing Im seeing consistant is that is is inconsistant at best. Guess my group of guides are the only ones having consistant inconsistancy...Oh well some day Ill grow up to be a hero I guess smile
One day we'll catch 100 fish and then the next 10...still dont know why maybe we just suck...I work with about 10 other guides and all are having the same inconsistantcies.
Top water bite is sporadic at best for decent fish..we can catch all the 6-12 inchers we want but getting any good fish on top has been wishfull thinking. Slab bite is good one day and sucks the next. later in the day/morning does seem to be a little better.
bait fishing is about the same but shad have become pretty easy to get.. contrary to what others want to say this is the worst summer of fishing I have seen in many years...like it or not that my report.. i dont have to make up great fishing stories to be build my biz...just the cold hard facts...My hair has gotten much grayer at least what I havent pulled out yet smile Im still considering hiring that pretty lil girl to show me how to catch fish smile smile
Lots of big boat shows and tons of trollers all over the lake frown

Yea we have been doing good in the river but it is about over with now that the water has started to smell. I have been reading the great reports but I think some sugar coating has been added. The guys I talk to on the lake have been up and down and mostly down. If the river slows down I will just hang up the striper fishing till the fall, almost time to head to the gulf for a month anyways. Looks like I might get to take a break before I head to the gulf because I don't like to get out there when it is tough.

Thanks for the report JD!!!

We were there 5 days and it was different each day. It is definately not hero season where the fish are jumping in the boat. We had a great bite on 2 of the 5 days top water and slabs, hit structure for fewer and larger fish one day with slabs and fished the boat shows and trolled the other 2 days.

THANKS for the call over to those top water fish!!!! For us it was just like JD said -- hit it good some days, struggled some days -- figured it was just me being away from the lake for so long...

The river gets the water from down deep below the thermocline. That water has little to no oxygen and smeels like rotten eggs. Lake shouldn't turn over until late sept. to oct.

JD thanks for the honest report. I get real tired of some people giving false reports in hopes to build business. We struggled Sunday but were able to pull a few in the river channel outside of Highport. Go figure.

Thanks for the report. My dad had a guided trip to Texoma scheduled a few weeks ago. The guide cancelled the day before because he could not catch shad. Sounded like fishing was tough and the guide did not want to go out and not catch any fish. I am sure that fishing like this makes it tough on the finances. Good luck guys.

3 days on the lake...Friday and Sunday were great. Saturday, we couldn't find a fish.

Still a dang bit of fun! Flowing Wells is REALLY nice.

The algea blooms and I guess its life cycle is very short, I assume it blooms during the day and dies off when the sun goes down and maybe that has something to do with all the mess you see on your graph in the late summer after the sun goes down. When the dead algea sinks to the bottom it decomposes and that is what takes all the oxygen and converts it into hydrogen sulfied ,I think that is what it is called. Through the summer the water is stacking up more and more dead water and by the end of the summer you usually will not find any fish below about 20 feet on Texoma. They do have some sluce gates they can open behind the dam and let some water thru the dam that comes from higher up in the water column but when they generate it really stinks as the gas is released from the water right below the dam then once the water gets down stream a little ways it smells fine . The water will stink below the dam untill the fall turnover wich usually happens early October when the surface temp cools below the temp of the deepwater and the warmer water down deep rises to the top because it is warmer and therefore lighter. Thats why the fishing on the lake gets much better about mid October because the lake is turned over wich greatly improves the oxygen levels in the water and with the cooler oxygenated water the fish become more active and can roam the lake at any depth in search of food. I would say the inconsistant fishing on the lake is due to poor water quality and the lack of baitfish concentrated so the fish are in search of cooler more oxygenated water and are spending more time resting then wasting energy trying to feed on scattered baitfish.
