Work just wasn't any fun today, so I took off early and went fishing. Caught my biggest, first, only, personal best etc. etc. fish. I've tried many times to catch one of these guys, but today things worked out. Fish were active, saw a few big bass follow my flies. Next thing I know there's a big [censored] carp making a bee line for it, let it pause for a while and in it went, set the hook and it was on. I had no intention of ever using the drag when I bought the reel, and I've never gotten to fight a fish from the reel until now. I was fortunate that my stripped line wasn't tangled on anything and he went right on to the reel and the drag started singing. The fish was 27" long and very fat, I figure 8-10 lbs. I was using my new TFO 3wt and had been catching small bass and sunfish, so my tippet was around 5-6 lb. Fly was something based on the "frail fry" out of Fly Fishing the Texas Hill Country, a foam head with eyes, gray zonker strip tied on top of a body of chenille.

My therapist says she's happy I flyfish for the meditative qualities. Little does she know it's the cause of my PTSD.

Nice, about time something big came out of Brushy.
It's more than the catfish would do.

Work just wasn't any fun today, so I took off early and went fishing. If I based my work ethic on if it was or was not a fun day I would never be a work! That had to be a blast on a 3wt! Congrats BTW I cut out early today too. Must prepare for the "TX Striper Assoc." tourny on Belton Sat.

Nice! Carp are strange. 99.99% of the time they are easy going fish just rooting on the bottom, never willing to spend much effort to chase anything down, but once in a blue moon you'll find one that will think its a bass or something.

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

Yeah, I've caught quite a few of them and I've only had a couple actually pursue my fly. One actually rushed it. Not the norm in my experience.
Good job on that fish dude--those BC carp are tough.

carp! it's what's for dinner! Strange quote from a man who has caught one thousand and yet, eaten, only one...
Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.
