The crappie are moving close to their spawning grounds on Fork, although not in great numbers yet. Had to catch them at night under the lights off the dock. We caught 15 in about six hours of fishing, up to a little over 2 pounds. All on minnows about 4' down over 6-10' of water. Tried jigs a little, but no takers, although my concentration was not great with my "partner" running around all over the boathouse! It's going to get good over the next 2-3 weeks as the eggsacks are really looking full. If you're going to Fork crappie fishing, try the pockets halfway back in the creeks with a bank that faces west. Try to find a big, isolated stump in 6 to 8 foot deep water with a creek channel within 100 yards.

Good report and nice fish, Fork Man. I have still been fishing out in the bay, with good results, but as of today, the water temps were around 54 degrees. With the water warming like this-- the coves should be a lot warmer yet, and a lot of fish are soon going to be moving in. I may have to spend some time in the next few days looking around in areas like you recomended. Thanks

BAIT956,
Your south/east bank in Chaney should be holding a few fish already. If not, try all the major creeks between you and Mustang. As mentioned, about halfway back, close to the creek and isolated cover. They're definitely suspended right now as well. You can probably continue to catch them out deep, as some of these fish never come to the banks. However, the major migration to the creeks looks to be starting in earnest. Let me know how you do.
Troy,
These were caught from my private dock. I think you can do fairly good bank fishing right now on the creeks with good depth and and cover. I see you already mentioned a county road crossing, so you're following the advice on this forum regarding creek fishing. Be sure and fish the Hiway 17 creek crossings north of Alba by throwing jig/bobber or minnow bobber around the pilings and riprap. With so many excellent feeder creeks on Fork and a phenomenal crappie population, I'm surprised there isn't more posts on Fork creek fishing. However, looks like the Metroplex guys are doing well enough close to home.

I'm in Willaims Creek and I look forward to dock fishing this weekend (night too). I start catching them around this time every year with most of them being big ones. I like a little roadrunner under a weighted bobber so I can cast it far.
