During my little joyride from Amarillo to Athens today, I decided to call Tailwaters and inquire as to when they expected the new lighter 6-8wt Mini Magnum would be available. I spoke with Travis who said he wasn't sure, but that he would take my name and number and call me when he knew something. He called me back within the hour and left me a voicemail informing me that it would be September before they hit the open market. That disappointed me until I realized that September is only 6 weeks away.
He did say that the new TFO Clouser rods were in stock in the 6wt size. Kudos to Tailwaters and especially Travis for such good customer service.

Tailwaters is my fave fly shop in the metroplex. Those guys are way cool. As a matter of fact I am going there tomorrow to pick up a new pair of polarized glasses from them instead of the big retail places

It's but a hop, skip, and a jump. A short little 7 hour jaunt that goes by in the blink of an eye. On a completely unrelated note, thank God for satellite radio. After 1,400 miles this week, I'm considering requesting to be paid by the mile like an over the road truckdriver.

Scott, I'm with you on that. I didn't get the best impression the first time I was in the shop, but that probably had more to do with my bubonic plague/ebola virus/anthrax infection than with their service. I'll probably cast that smaller rod once just to say that I have and then buy it seconds later.

He did say that the new TFO Clouser rods were in stock in the 6wt size. Kudos to Tailwaters and especially Travis for such good customer service. Tx, call Jim Schulin or Brandon Powers at TFO and ask about availability of the new 6-8 Mini-Mag. I understand they were received from the factory last week. I received one to test drive and it is a cannon, and has the same sweet spot of its big Mini-Mag brother. George Glazener Press Release: July 7, 2009 TFOs New Mini Magnum/Mini-Mag Kits The Mini Magnum now has a little brother as adds a TFO 6/8 weight (200-300 grains) to the mix. Like its big brother, the Mini Mag 6/8 is not to exceed 8', keeping it "legal" for many tournament fishing circuits. Equally at home in both fresh and salt water, Mini Mags are constructed with a hybrid combination of S-Glass and high-modulus carbon fiber for exceptional lifting power and casting ability. So go ahead and throw your favorite pattern into the junk, once eaten there's enough butt strength to rip bronzebacks out of the rock quarry or wrestle linesiders away from the dock pilings. Mini Magnum rods are not just powerful fishing tools; the polished blue marble finish makes these 3 piece rods a stunning piece of equipment topped with oversized stripping and snake guides. The up-locking reel seat features a cushioned channel that is set in a flor grade full wells cork grip with a large comfortable fighting butt. Suggested retail is $199.95. Mini Mag kits (available mid-July) will include a TFO Prism CLA reel (7/8 or 9/11) rigged with a fly line (8 or 10 wt. line), leader and backing all packed neatly in a rod and reel carrying case. Suggested retail is $299.95. All TFO rods feature a lifetime unconditional warranty. Simply return the damaged rod with $25 for shipping and handling, and we will repair or replace your rod. George, I'm not sure what the disconnect is, but the gentleman at Tailwaters called TFO to get his information. Maybe the rods are in stock, but the rod socks aren't, or something along those lines. I do wish they'd do a better job of updating TFO's website, there is nothing at all about the Clouser rods or the new smaller Mini Mags on there at all.

There may have been some confusion due to the TFO press release of the Loomis casting and spinning rods due in September. That's my take on it anyway.....

Txredraider: Why don't you just call Jeff Jackson at TFO? I have known Jeff since the early 90's and he has never told me anything but the truth.
These guys are not in business to keep you from buying their rods.
I have a friend that bought one of the Clouser rods Tuesday and was told it was the first one sold to the public. He is now using it it at Grand Isle.

Have fun with this stuff.

If someone has his email and can pm it to me, I'll drop him a line. I'd like to thank him for his help when I bought Excalibur as well as send him the picture of my new personal best LMB on their rod.

Many thanks, George, you're a gentleman and a scholar.
I will, of course, report back here with the results of my query.

Copied from PondBoss Forum 07-19-09 Very soon I will have a full line of TFO products as a new dealer. I have several TFO conventional rods and one mini-mag fly rod that I truly love, and since my good friend Brandon Powers works for TFO, this business move just makes sense for me. I plan to stock the mini-mags and several different spin and bait cast rods as well as some of their other products. Any of you on the forum who are interested in these products, I'll ship them to you UPS or you can come to our location to pick one out.
With a lifetime no-fault repair/replace warranty, I don't see how you can go wrong. http://www.overtonfisheries.com/DesktopDefault.aspx

I drive by Overton Fisheries quite a bit in my travels and now it looks like I'll have an actual reason to stop in and see them.
