Currently, I'm using a spinning setup that would make most serious anglers (and myself, sometimes) question my decision making, so it's time to upgrade/adjust.
I'm looking for a spinning setup that I will be using primarily for Topwater, Spinners, Crankbaits, and anything that isn't a plastic or a jig.
I have a Cabelas Prodigy Casting reel on a Shakespeare UglyStik Lite (Medium Heavy, 6'6") that i use for plastics and jigs.
Id like something with a fast retrieve rate, and a rod with medium to heavy action so i can get nice loud pops and splashes with my topwater, and still get good rattles from a Ratl Trap. Id like something medium in size, so i can still toss lighter lures and baits, but still be able to handle that 12lb'er im gonna catch someday.
Should I even get a spinning setup, or should just get another baitcaster? or do i need to get two new setups?

you should have a spinning set up but you should be fishing those lure you are talking about on a baitcaster, especially the rattle trap. Use the spinning for weightless flukes, wacky worms, drop shots and shakey heads. But of course I fish most of these on bait casting gear also. I carry one very nice spinning set up and hardly ever use it, sometimes I leave it in the truck to be honest.

so i should get another baitcaster with a higher gear ratio and a medium to heavy action 6'6" - 7' ? once i switched to a baitcaster, my spinner has seen little use, so a baitcaster is what i should get?

Most of the time, it works every time.

I would only use a spinning rig with wieghtless stuff like fluke, wackey, shakey head, small baits baitcast for the rest so yes what Bit Man and Myself saying is don't limit your self to only spinning rods use the baitcast for bigger TX-Rig,C-rig,Rattle traps, POP-R, and cranks it just give you better control of the rod.

There are definitely times that call for a spinning rig. I have used Shimano Saharas without a single problem. I put them on AllStar rods. Braid or mono work well.

I have a couple of the Shimano Sedona reels. They were pretty inexpensive, and work very nicely. I have a setup I like for throwing similar lures as the original post. The Sedona 1500 with 12 pound test fluoro, on a Dobyns 703SF(spinning rod). Good Luck and post pictures of the 12pounder when you catch it!

I think I've settled on a 7.0-7.1:1 ratio, on a medium heavy 7ft. I've been looking at the Revo SX-HS and the Quantum Burner 7.0. and Falcon Rods. I wanna be able to crank those buzzbaits and poppers in with a fury. Thanks for the input fellas!
