Me, my brothers, and my dad spent a week down at port A and thank God we found a honey but when we would go clean the fish it was a DISASTER. we first pulled up to the fish house at night and it looked like the walls moved. About a millon cockroaches live in that little shack. they were all over the ground, ceiling, and table. you would have to spray all the roaches of your fish constantly. If youve been to the fish house you would know what im talkin about. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED!!! L.R.Harge

Whaaat? Cockroaches in Port Aransas? Somebody must have brought a big bait box full down there and dumped them out! The very idea.

The problem is it gets used probably more then any other fish cleaning station on the coast. I don't think it was designed with that much traffic in mind.
IMO, it's the smelliest single spot in all of Texas. That includes Texas City and the feedlots outside of Amarillo!
Might be worth contacting the Harbor Master and seeing what he can do.

How would you know anything about those roaches. If I remember right the closest you got to that house was for that picture with your big reds. I think next time you should step on in to get the full experience! LoL

Yeah, its a good thing the fishing was good, or that would not have been worth it.

Here are a few pics of the fish house from when we were there. 7 in one corner! A little proof that L.R. was cleaning fish. We were there four nights in a row, all around 2am. Is it like this in all parts of the day, or can the significant amount of roaches we saw be attributed to the time of night we were there? I can't imagine dealing with this on a daily basis if I were a local guide. The ones that are on the walls and floor are gross, but the ones I just couldn't stand were the ones that fell from the ceiling. They were like "para"roaches.

I won't go in that place. I won't even put my boat in on the first ramp next to the fish house for fear of being eaten by those roaches... they are legendary. It has been that way for as long as I can remember it. What's scary is they've become conditioned to eating raw fish flesh... what happens when people quit feeding them??? They'll turn on the tourists LMAO.
Those pictures you posted give me the heebe-jeebes just thinking about that fish house.

AW, Dems just Palmetto Bugs mister! I walk my dog at night here in The Woodlands and you should see the sewer manhole covers after dark! They look wet until you realize they are just shimmering with hundreds of dem big "Cockroaches". The other night I saw a cockroach eating a junebug.

We used to stay at a place in Port A when I was a kid that had it's own fish house. I know now why they kept one of those tubes with the pump handle on it to keep the perimeter dusted with boric acid. Those things would'nt even try to cross that line of dust.
