Hey I regularly cross the Mountain Creek Lake bridge and I never see any sort of a boat, never. I know it's supposedly contaminated, I think because TXU is it's controlling entity. Doesn't matter to me, I'm a catch and release guy. I've assumed it was a "dead" lake, but who says? I just looked into it on the TPWD's website and it shows a record bass of 7.44 lbs was caught in Sept of '05 on a buzz bait. Now I know that's sort of a small lake record but it's recent enough to figure that maybe the bass are in there and doing well (for all I [we] know)...also it list bass as "Good" in it's rateing system. The website says the upper 2/3rds of the lake is silted up and only about 4 feet deep, but that the dam and run-way area has enough rip-rap to hold largemouth bass, also that there is a canal that attracts fish with it's warm water from the power plant (maybe good in the winter). But the thing that got me interested was the coon-tails and lotus that the lake has and especially the look of that lonely southern end that you can see when crossing the bridge. Looks like there are some great coves down there from what I can see, and nobody's fishing them! It's soo close to me but I have no boat or I'd give that southern end a go. Has anyone here been across that bridge and seen where I'm talking about or have any experience, opinion or comment on it?

I've lived near there since '72 and never felt brave enough to go there. The water's contaminated, you could practically walk across it (from what I've heard), there's no good place to put in or park your vehicle without it getting stolen.

I agree on there being some spots that look great that would hold fish and have heard a few reports of nice bass on that lake, but the negatives far outweigh the positives for me.

I fished it via kayak and saw a number of fish. I don't think we caught any largemouth but we caught a bunch of good sized whites.

Yea, there is a boat ramp over on the east side of the lake but the part about leaving your car and it getting stolen IS a good point. Of course the answer for me since I live so close would be to get my wife to drive me to the launch then return to pick me up after fishing a few hours (IF I had a boat). I don't care about the lake being shallow across most of it, I'd only be interested in targeting the southern most coves and along some of the better looking shore line (parts that are out of reach from the banks). BTW, the TPWD show the lake to have a maximum depth of 25ft and that's after mentioning that the upper 2/3rds are silted up. I just feel like it's a lot of potentially good fishing area going to waste.

Id say hit it.... Not much fishing pressure so theres got to be some monsters in there, literally lol.

75% of the lake is 2 feet deep, it maxes out at about 18 at the dam.

There are fish in it, but access is tough, there may not be a worse ramp in DFW for security.

The ramp that used to be on the Grand Prairie side (it is no longer usable, I've launched a kayak over there, and the ramp was nowhere to be seen) is a little safer, but not by much. I say GP side, but it is still Dallas according to the Dallas cop I spoke to once there while loading my kayak.

I grew up fishing that lake, and there are a lot of 3 lb largemouth bass in it, and a lot of nice white bass and crappie (who fishes for crappie as catch and release? they fight like a wet rag).

It is a nice place for paddling kayaks, I wish Dallas would make it safer to leave a car there, I'd kayak it a good deal more if they did.





There are not many places in the area you can paddle by a aircraft tail poking out of the water either.

1+ on leaving your car they will steal your stuff like crazy!

Talk to the Dallas police dept. See if they would put in a police sub station right next to the lake with a big parking lot. Then maybe it would be a little safer to park your vehicle there.

Like I said the shallow water isn't such a problem since I'll be getting a (10' ft model) 2 man bass boat at some point. Too bad about the parking situation. If I can work things out, I'll get my wife to drop me off and pick me up, and try the lake out.

If you're willing to park on the GP side (and can carry the boat to water), I have left my 2006 VW Jetta Diesel (RIP) over there 1/2 dozen times without *any* problems.

OK, I'll certainly do that. I'd be after largemouth bass specifically. Do you have experience with fishing this lake for bass?..if so, you can play guide if you want. Also, where is there access at on the GP side? Oh, and has anyone noticed the sweet looking ponds that are on that golf course that's on the GP side, I bet they're loaded with fish.

The parking and theft has kept me off the lake.

I have fished that lake a few times and never had any issues with theft or depth. Fished from the bridge north to the last cove heading towards the power plant. Nice fish, no trouble's.

Lots of thief's and no fish in the lake i wouldn't fish it.
