As and FYI to everyone....

I e-mailed TPWD about stocking on a local pond here in DFW and got the following response.

MY QUESTION TO THEM:

I had a question as to Bass Stocking. In particular for ponds such as
Bob Jones Park in Southlake. How does TPWD determine if a pond
needs/gets a stocking of Bass in any particular year?
This pond was stocked in 1999 with 600 fingerlings but that was the
last time. Is a study done to determine if the Bass population may need
another stocking?

THEIR REPLY:

Thanks for your interest in fishing and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. These small ponds are stocked if they meet certain criteria. Two of the most important criteria include being a new or renovated pond; or have had a major fish kill. The original stocking at Bob Jones was conducted because it was a new pond. Bob Jones is currently part of the Neighborhood Fishin program and receives a lot of fishing pressure. This could lead to over harvest of the largemouth which could also be limiting the population. Because of other priorities we have not sampled Bob Jones to determine the status of the current population. We will place Bob Jones on our list of sites to sample this fall and determine if stocking more largemouth bass will benefit the population.

Thanks again for your interest.

Bob Jones is downright depressing for bass fishing... It could definitely use a good stocking.

The fact that they responded and are adding it to the list is very impressive.. I guess the old saying, "it can't hurt to ask" Good job!!!
