I want to go ahead and buy my HDS-8, but looking at my boat I have a small problem. I have an 2008 Alumacraft Pro 175. The console is already cluttered up with gauges, no room to mount it right on the console far as I can see. Also, it's going to be to big to put just to the side of the console where I have my smaller Humminbird 535 right now. Anyone have ideas on where to put this thing with a console like this? If that picture isn't good enough, I can take some of my actual boat or there are a handful more photos on the Alumacraft site. http://alumacraft.com/bass-style-deluxe-modified-v-boats/pro-175.phpThe 2008 and 2009 models don't differ much, from what they told me it was just a difference in the trailer. I'll take any ideas you may have. Only thing I need is to keep the quick release so I can take the unit with me when I leave my boat for any reason.

Get a large RAM mount and put it where the little 'bird is. The unit will stick out over the gunwale some but you can lean it in toward the drivers seat to get it clear of the console and in off the gunwales. Any way you mount it though, that big unit is going to take up a lot of space in a small area. But my hat's off to you for going big

" We're gonna need a bigger boat "
you could take off the windshield and use the Lowrance as bug deflector.
Seriously , you will have to have one of the big Ram mounts, you will figure out where. good luck MO

You might try something like this.

Sweet! I didn't know those RAM mounts existed. I appreciate the info.
And thanks for the idea Dayne. I think I can get my uncle to help me figure out a way to re-arrange my gauges so that I could pull that mounting style off. Snaggin' picture to run it by him and see what he thinks.

Just my opinion but I think that HDS 8 is gonna be too large to mount like Dayne has it. That is a much heavier unit and would put a lot of stress on the dash unless you brace it. Plus as large as the unit is, you'd not be able to see your gauges.

Now an 8 would be just fine up front when it is 4 or more feet from me.

Thanks Blu-Ranger and Dayne, I haven't actually had the HDS-8 in my hands yet. I'm probably going to run up to Basspro or Cabela's today to get some actual hands on with it to check weight and size. Then start searching the net for the best price I can find.
I'll check out the RAM mounts while I'm up there as well.

RAM mount off the side of the console would be your only choice
