Also, i'm sick of writing my congressmen, it never works! They don't give a ---- about what we want, or they wouldn't pull this stuff anyway! They know that most people are too lazy to check voting records, and forget anything past the last political ad. anyway!

It's not a matter of whether we as anglers are "falling" for it or not, or that we are "stupid". The fact is, it appears as though they are not planning on spending the money as it was proposed so they are the liars. But really, it boils down to the fact that once the politicians "say" this is their plan and then apply the additional fee to the license, we are required to pay it or end up getting a citation for not having a license when checked by the game warden. I think the majority here will admit that they had some reservations in the beginning on whether the addtional money would ever find it's way to the hatchery system as proposed. However, we "hoped" that it would and therefore would not mind paying the additional amount if it was to benefit us in the long run. I had my doubts too, but being a law-abiding citizen, I had no choice when purchasing my license since I was not willing to give up my favorite hobby..

I liked the way that you worded your responce to you legislatures and copy/pasted that into my reponses to mine. Thanks for being very level headed and not going overboard in those responses but getting the point across that in November changes can be made if they don't listen.

Guys I am sorry that things didnt work out the way we thought they should.I have already said I told you so in another post so I wont say it again.I will tell you that it is a waste of your time contacting your reps, they have made their mind up and where money is concerned they are going to take the money.I know what I am talking about,I have contacted my Senator and Representive on another matter (even wrote the govenor)on a matter concerning money,I received a form letter from all of them thanking me for my intrest in the matter and assuring me that my concerns were their #1 priority.Same thing when I called their office. So I think you are wasting your time sorry

The entire problem rests right on our shoulders. The only way to teach these lieing thieves a lesson is to vote the out. ANYONE who votes for and incumbent should be branded on the forehead and have thier head shaved!!! My ex wife is so stupid she thinks that there are honest politicians.

Hey TBill, thanks for your response, you must think I am stupid..Did I forget to say that I had contacted the govenors office, my senators office and my representives office by phone,as well as by E-mail and they all reminded me of the govenor in "the best little whorehouse in Texas" they way they danced around,I could hear the music to "sidesteppin" in the back ground. You must think I dont vote or watch how the elected officials vote.I have been voting for over 40 years and have never successfully voted one of these IDIOTS out of office.I am glad your problem was taken care of to your satisfaction.I am still telling you that this thing with the $5.00 will not be resolved in our favor, you can send E-mails until your keyboard falls apart and they aren't going to change their minds. You can sit on their desk and talk to them face to face and they will lie to you,you have to understand that your best intrest is not their best intrest when there is money to be had.I can't beleive that people put the cowards back in office that ran to another state when things weren't going their way, they should have all been thrown out of office right then.Sorry to be on your case about this but I am old enough to know what I am talking about, and have dealt with politicians for years and I do know how the State works.

There is another way to handle the problem. Start now by saving a little bit a month, then buy a lifetime license which does not require a FW stamp.

A lifetime license pays for itself in 13 years at the current license rate. I have at least 13 years of fishing left in this ole body.

We should be used to the ole bait and switch. See lottery, gas tax.......

Then vote the bastages out.

How much is a lifetime license? This sounds good, but I don't if I am going to live 13 years.

Strayhorn Says Proceeds From Freshwater Fish Stamp in Danger of Being Misused
Urges Legislature to Keep Promise to Fishing Enthusiasts

(Austin)--Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn today said proceeds from a fee fishing enthusiasts are now paying could be redirected by the Legislature and urged members to keep their promise to Texas taxpayers.

"Texas sportsmen and women were promised that the income from the freshwater fish stamp would pay for fish hatcheries and habitats," Strayhorn wrote. "And now those funds are in danger of being taken away."

Under current law, the $5 freshwater fish stamp is required through 2014 to fish in freshwater in Texas.

But the current House and Senate versions of Senate Bill 1 would supersede the original dedication of this fee to fish hatcheries and the purchase of game fish. In effect, the dollars originally earmarked for hatcheries would be used to support other programs.

Because the dedication would be stripped away and replaced with either revenue bonds or General Obligation Bonds, Strayhorn said the change in policy will come at a significant cost to the state.

"The cost to Texas taxpayers would be approximately an additional $3 million to $9.1 million," Strayhorn said. "If interest rates rise, the cost of the bonds would increase.

"I realized that fishing enthusiasts went along with the stamp tax because they were promised a new hatchery and maintenance on existing hatcheries, guaranteeing Texas waterways would have abundant fish populations for generations to come," Strayhorn said. "They have a right to be upset that the funds they have paid to fish will not be used for their intended and promised purposes."

Lets get the phones ringing and get the grass root effort started on this. We have the support of the Comptroller at this time.

Here is the letter I am sending to our two Representatives. Please look up your representatives and make the appropriate changes needed. I hope everyone finds this is an easy process and the only way to defeat this bill is to get the letters and phone calls started.

Dear Representative Mary Denny and Representative Myra Crownover,

It is come to my attention that the State Legislation is attempting to misappropriate money from Texas Parks and Wildlife. Texas Parks and Wildlife established a $5.00 Freshwater Fishing Stamp and charged it to every person who purchased a fishing license and is fishing a freshwater lake in the State of Texas.

This is money that is dedicated to the fish hatcheries in the state. It is also intended to maintain the funds needed to purchase and stocking game fish throughout the State for all fishermen.

It is extremely important that the funds are to be used for that exact purpose and not misappropriated by the State for other reasons.

As a constituent in your district, I am depending on you make the necessary decisions to ensure that the money is used as directed.

Attached is the news release from the State Comptrollers office addressing this issue.

As an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, this is an issue that is extremely important to me and all of those who paid the $5.00 fee to ensure that our lakes, rivers, and reservoirs, are maintained not just for our enjoyment, but the future enjoyment of our children and grandchildren.

Sincerely,

BD,

The lifetime is $600 but it covers both salt and freshwater. The license is exempt from both stamps.

My cyphering was off a bit....takes about 15.8 yrs to pay for itself at CURRENT rates. Key word is current. 600/38=15.8

I still have 15.8(corrected) years of fishing in this ole body.
