State Comptroller Strathorn says that $5 fee we all paid when we got our license for fisheries and fish stockings may not make it to the TP&W pot!
The current budget the House and Senate are considering will supersede the original intent of the $5 fee to provide stock fish and fisheries improvements.
Call, write, email, fax your state reps. now!

Stamp....Smamp....I told all of you, it was nothing more than a tax increase when some of you were saying how willing you were to pay it.....Especially since the stamp tied it to TPW funding. Congress has been stealing Social Security money for years....I don't know why you ever doubted that a State Legislative body couldn't figure out how to steal a measly $5.00 fishing stamp. I bet some of you still believe in the tooth fairy??

I used the above link to fire off a email to my Rep.
Thanks for the link.
Please do the same for your rep.; just add you name at the bottom and change your reps name at the top if you just want to cut and paste.
"Mr. Van Arsdale,
It is my understanding that the State Comptroller, Mrs. Strathorn, has indicated that the $5 fee that was assessed to my fishing license this year is in jeopardy of being placed in the general fund. Thusly, not going toward the sole stated purpose of updating and improving the states hatcheries.
As a payer of this fee, I feel betrayed, and victimized if this statement becomes fact. If those moneys are not placed in an account that is directly attributed to the stated purpose, then that is akin to stealing in my point of view.
I voted for you. Please represent my views in this matter and see that I am not a victim of this indecent act and ensure that the money collected for fishery improvement is used for that purpose.
Thank you,
Registered and about to be pissed off voter."

They are not trying to pull it consider it done, and theres not a thing anyone can or will do to stop it. Oh yeah everyone will be torqued up but come election time everyone will forget and go right back in and vote the same way they did last time. TPWD saw an opportunity to fleece the flock, they did with a $5 fee increase, or extra tax. Then the legislature saw fit to keep the money, theres no honor among thieves.

I think we all need to emails to our state senators and representatives. While I did not find a direct email address for Strayhorn, I would suggest sending protest emails to this address: mailto:statewide.accounting@cpa.state.tx.us
This is the statewide accounting office and it seemed to be the most appropriate email address available at the comptroller's website.

I e-mailed my representatives and requested that they try to stop this before anything gets changed as to the use of the monies collected from the $5 "stamp fee". c.j.

Where are all of ya'll who defended this new tax..errrr stamp?????? A lot of us have been beat up on here for predicting this kind of thing would happen. How about some of you coming up with the man parts to admit you were wrong and this was just another way for the govt to take our money. They think outdoorsmen are stupid enough to keep falling for this BLEEP and they are right. It is not the 5 dollars so save the "it's just the price of one spinnerbait" bull Bleep. Like we have said before, it is the principle of the thing that pisses us off! The ol' bait and switch! You would think that fishermen of all people wouldn't keep falling for this.
