Have a large turtle( about 20" across the back) in a dirt tank.
I think they call them a snapping turtle. Have caught him once with a pole, but he broke off before I could get him in.
He is eating the small fish I have in there I am sure, so I need to get rid of him.
Tank is to deep to seine, and I never see him so shooting is out of the question.
Any help?
Thank you all

Trotline. Back in the day, trotlining False River (outside of Baton Rouge) it was common for us to catch them - we sold them to the market. I was a youngster and boy, I didn't like having them in our 14' Duracraft.

Of course, you'll catch other unintended fish.

Turtles usually eat dead fish as they're usually not quick enough to catch a live one. A wildlife biologist once told me that any fish that gets eaten by a turtle deserves it.

Ice chest full of beverage of choice
chair
.22 rifle
radio

and you with some friends can have a fun time on a Saturday while catching a tan. The booger has to come up to breath sometime. If you're not a good shot, use a 12 gauage. But that's no fun.

Make darn sure it's not an Alligator Snapping Turtle...they're protected in all waters, public & private.

I have killed a ton of them with a 10-22 ruger with a 4-10X scope you just have to wait them out ,but he will come up about every 5-6 min.,aim just a tad low and you are less one fish eater.

I have shot many turtles with a 22. It is lots of fun actually. Get a 22 with open sites and try to knock his head off. If you really want him dead get you a lawn chair in the shade. Sit there until he comes up to the surface and shoot him with the rifle of your choice with a good scope. I would suggest a 30-06 of 7mm mag. That way if you miss the concussion will kill him. It looks like an underwater mine went off. Not that I have ever done this before or anything. Good luck and have fun!

Oh yeah, make sure nobody is down range of you.

I shot a turtle with a 30-30 once that was laying on a log about 30 yards away, it looked like a watermelon exploded! Green & red everywhere!

I was thinking the same thing from my turtle hunts I have been on. I just didn't know how to describe it. Well done. Glad to know I am not the only turtle hunter on here. rolfmao If anyone knows any turtles that need to be dealt with, I know a guy.
