Seriously, I posted the following question awhile back and never really got an answer.

If you pull up and people are fishing. What is the proper distance one should stay back ?...

I myself have had people pull withing 10 feet and start fishing. If I pull up and someone is fishing a cove. I will either wait until they are on the opposite side and start fishing or leave..

At Fork, I had some yahoo zip between me and a bank on pad..That's why I will not Fish fork during the day. Which in the end I am hurting myself..

I think we have to realize that YES we all think and consider the other anglers, and are respectable to them. Some people just don't know how to respect others water.

That being said Clint you did the right thing, no matter what happens out there, you have really gained Trust, respect and Friends through your Guide Service. No need to ruin any of that over a couple knuckle heads.

Remember there's Big Time CARMA in anything we do, and those guys will get there's

Great Job staying calm, it would have been tough for me to be honest.

It would have been damn near impossible for me to have remained calm enough to pull this off but I feel that the chuckleheads would have been better off if you had told them of how unsportsman-like their actions were, and then left the spot for them, with a nice rooster tail to cool them off grin

They didn't learn anything except that it's ok to do that kind of thing again.

Well, if you told them what you were catching them on and you left the spot to them, then their rudeness worked. They got what they wanted and possibly even benefitted financially. They have no incentive to not pull that stunt again next time.

Not sure what I would have done, though. Probably said something like, "Well I'm out here with paying clients, so you need to troll yourself back away from my rig or get out your checkbook. I charge $100 for a trail boat."

If I just decided to leave instead, I don't think I would leave quietly.

Now that right there is funny, I don't care who you are...

Clint, you were a lot calmer & nicer than I would have been.

You handled it the only correct way with clients aboard. Having said that I think I would have been hard pressed to untie my boat and leave.

They're fishing a tournament? Tough, your making a living.

What's really a shame is that if those guys were sacking up the fish and Clint had pulled up like they did and started fishing we would have been reading a post about how rude some guide was to pull up on them and start fishing their hole.
It's really simple, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, but that doesn't seem to apply to a lot of people when they get on the lake these days.
I think you did the right thing Clint to just leave those losers to themselves and move on.

well, you earned a lot of respect for you business i would say. i am curious what you and your clients were saying as you all were moving to another spot. i dont know if i would have gone so far as to tell them what i was fishing with, but, i applaud your decision. i would have definitely asked what tournament they were fishing and the directors name and number.

You did the right thing Clint despite what I know you wanted to do...we all know you have some crazy nunchuck skills....Napoleon Dynamite has nothing on you. Seriously, as you normally do, you took the high road an dI am sure your clients appreciated it. Now had it been me and you in the boat like in the past, it might have been a little different. :-) Chris

"ooga booga booga" LOL! Reminds me of Davey Hite on Zona's show. LMAO on that one.

You did the right thing, Clint. Best to be the better man in that situation, for your client's sake and your own. An altercation would have only runied the night. Still don't agree with what those mooseknuckleheads did, though.

First, hand them a business card and suggest that you could teach them how to be better tournament anglers.

Second, suggest to them that you charge $$$ for a tag along boat and then ask them for cash or a valid credit card number if they insist on remaining so close.

Finally, suggest to them that while it is a free lake for all to enjoy you are trying to make your living and they are in violation of most tournament rules and might face disqualification. Then ask them to politely remove themselves to a reasonable distance. You might even feed them a bone and suggest a technique or baits that would help them succeed.
