We were out over 30 miles out of Matagorda. The thing that has me concerned is that there are no weeds out there to form a line when the seas calm down.

Everything I'm hearing is that there are no weed lines, mats or rafts. Also, I'm hearing that distinct color changes and rips are few and far between out to 70 miles.

This weekend we were out 25 miles. There was blue water there but there was no distinct color change. As for weeds lines I didnt see a single one.

6 of us were 30-45 miles out of Freeport this weekend, blue water as close as 15 miles but no weedlines or distinct color changes, out about 35 we fished a wreck in 110-115 ft and once we drifted off it about 50 80 yards, dorado showed up in small bunches, seemed to like the boat as shade, they stayed with us as we drifted, there was sargassum, but it was way spread out, we boated 4 but we only had dead bait and lures, if we had some live I am positive we could have gotten more.
Total for the trip was 5 snapper( 3 largest were 18.4 pounds, 14 and 12, caught and released many undersized ), 1 shark( released 2 others) 1 triggerfish, 4 dorado( largest 6-8 pounds), 2 undersized ling, 1 undersized amberjack.
It was a good trip overall.

Been offshore 8 times since the first week of June-no weed lines-seas look 2 to flat for the next few days, will be some build up on the rip-1 to 2 pm out 15 degrees short of 180, 16 to 25 miles will see the rip, maybe-take 5 or 6 live piggy pearch and keep a ling rod ready-I will be fishing on Mon and Tue, good luck

By the way-Don't let the Oklahoma location bother you, this is my 12th year fishing off shore out of Kirby Marina. My trucks wear out faster than my boat

I was out Thursday and Saturday. There were a ton of shrimp boats, but it seemed like nothing had found them yet but the porpoises. There was a bunch of them. Limited both days on good snapper, but that was it. No weed lines yet, but at least we saw some weeds and a couple of rips where it looked like there could be some weed lines later.

I talked to a shrimper I know, and he has been shrimping out of Matagorda for years. He doesn't recall ever seeing the lack of weeds offshore we are experiencing now.
