Fished Lake Bridgeport for the last two nights from 8:30PM to around 3:00 AM. This is my first time fishing here for crappie. I tried several points and could only catch fish under the 380 bridge. Caught tons of dinks and stripers 16" and under on minnows using a green light. I couldnt catch anything with jigs. Since there were so many small ones I would think I would have gotten at least one keeper. Where am I going wrong?

Plague of the dinks strikes another unsuspecting victim! Simple Man, from what I hear, this sort of thing is becoming the norm unless your name starts with and E and ends with -rnest Paty.

That makes me feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one. Is it the high temperatures that have stopped the bigger fish from biting or are they just staying somewhere else seperated from the smaller fish.

Some say it is from an abundance of spawning area from excess rainfall a couple years back that allowed an above average amount of crappie to spawn and now are reaching adulthood. Others say that you need to weed through the small ones or go out a bit farther from where you are fishing (usually a bit deeper) to find the bigger fish. I really have no idea. Here where I fish, there has been a ridiculous rise in the amount of black crappie that are being caught (all dinks right now). Must be something in the water.

Sounds like we may have some real good fishing when the dinks grow up.

Yeah, those dinks are everywhere right now. Pretty soon they will all be keepers.

your right in the last 2 months I have caught well over 1000 dinks and only about 20 keepers. When they get big enough it will be great fishing.

I wonder if in past years, say that last 10, if the heat of the summer is just dink catching time. I'm new to crappie fishing so I really don't know. People seem to have short memories though, like in the spring when the wind blows practically every day and people are somehow surprised by that. Just a thought
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.
